Cuz Auburn knows that they aren't nearly as good as us and that they A) had help from the officiating and B) our coaching staff didn't give us the best chance at winning by not playing Holliday, KWilliams and Scott.
To the point of the thread, I'm not sure a six spot dropping isn't justified. I'd agree generally that LSU should be a top 15-20 team, but not too sure we should be top 10. Number 12 feels about right (at this stage of the game), and quite honestly I think having a little bit of a chip on LSU's shoulder works to our advantage. Each of Memphis and Wisconsin also dropped six spots for their losses, which makes the counterpoint to tygertail--lots of "good" teams are going to look "crappy" right now. I don't particularly mind being lumped in with these one-loss teams... Duke, UNC, Kansas, Florida, etc. Just means the undefeated teams aren't playing anyone. Now, should we be worried that someone besides G. Davis will have to step up and score, or that we don't have a "true" point guard to step up after the leaving of D.Mitch? Yes. But, we knew we'd have that problem. It'll get better as the team gels, and we've got McNeese and Tulane to further tune up.
No need to worry..The regular season poll is a joke. Just do well in the SEC tourny to make the 64. That's when it counts.
That's a big drop--especially for basketball! o: Oh well....the good thing about basketball is that rankings don't really matter too much at this point--if ever. Everyone still needs to play the same amount of games in the tourny to make it to the Final 4 and ultimately win it.
LSU hasn't proved itself to be a regular fixture at the top of the polls, so we aren't going to be treated like it. People were and still are a little hesitant to put as at the top because they don't know if it was a one hit wonder. Furthermore, the thing everyone was worried about our team this year - our ability to hit 3 point shots consistently - appears to really be a big concern, and not just undue worrying.
I dont see LSU having as good of a regular season as last year. Losing D Mitch will hurt LSU more than losing Tyrus. DM stepped up and was the leader at the leaders position last year. As long as we are one of the 64 teams in the bracket, anything can happen after that.
Not to put a cap on this year's season already, but I still believe this team is good enough, at the least, to reach the Sweet 16. ...and that's still an admirable accomplishment.
The only time you want to be streaking in the polls is at the end of the season. That is when the seedings can make or break you come tournament time. LSU is notorious for early season losses but look for a nice rebound in 2 weeks.
