The main point of this thread was to bring to light how horrible the state of LSU football is off the field. The story about CM was only thrown in for emphasis. Unless Chris changes his name to Jabarre, nothing is going to come of this. http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007706070348
I don't want to stereotype or racially profile anyone, but this is not only happening at LSU and it's not only athletes. Who do most young black men (hell, any young person) look up to? Pro athletes? Maybe so, but it seems like more and more are trying to live extravagantly without the neccesary means. What I mean is this: turn on MTV or BET or similar channels. What do you see? Rappers trying to glorify the lifestyle of gangsters and thugs. That, in itself, isn't so much a problem. The problem lies in that the youth of today seem like they're trying to live the same lifestyles as rappers/entertainers that are making a gazillion times more money. I know this because I see it every day at school, in the malls, at work--everywhere. Kids spending thousands of dollars on fake jewelery, XXXL clothes, Air Jordans, BMWs, rims, systems, etc etc. You have Alley Broussard trying to be a rapper (I'm not picking on him, but he doesn't even seem to have any great lyrical or flow skills. He's better off trying to do it on the field.) You have RP gambling, which (IMO) he shouldn't even be worrying about. You have a LOT of these level-headed athletes hanging out with their "friends" who try to embrace a gangster type lifestyle. It's a shame that anyone would have to abandon their friends, but their main job is playing football for LSU. I'm not saying that they shouldn't have fun or anything, but they have to live smarter.
It’s not acceptable just cause it’s “Commonplace” and even though it’s embarrassing when it’s one of our players, it is problematic or our society. People want things and the want them NOW, then don’t want to work for them and the younger generation is about immediate gratification. If you don’t believe me, watch what happens when someone goes to a fast food drive-through and gets asked to pull up and wait for their order. I just pulled a few........there are MANY, we tend to listen more closely when it’s ours. >Purdue football player suspended< >2 Illini Football Players Suspended After Arrests< >BYU players suspended after arrests in water-balloon dispute - USATODAY.com< >6 Penn St. players charged in brawl<
There is a big difference between reading negative press about players and discussing them on public forums after they come to light.
Nothing will come of this when they determine who was in the passenger seat doing the shooting, and that it definitively was not Chris. The only person saying it wasn't Chris at the moment is his brother.
I agree with you there. I think it is unfair the way the media "helps" us to convict people before all the facts are known. I imagine LSU players are going to continue to get more attention than normal because of the prominence of the program but this isn't really the kind of attention anyone wants and I do find it a bit distressing. I'm sure the majority of this will bleed off after the players free time reduces, once we get closer to the season, but I share everyone's disappointment when I read yet another article involving a player.
Well add one more..........What were these guys thinking?? :hihi: >Current, former WVU players arrested<
I'm not quite sure what you call it when someone enters a pre-trial intervention program with 6 months of unsupervised probation. I call that "in trouble" with the Feds, and they gave him the stern warning to stay out of trouble for 6 months. Clearly you and RP have something in common. My dad just got this offer in lieu of a speeding ticket. Pre-trial intervention program. Pay a fine. Get unsupervised probation for 6 months, and its off his record if he stays clean. Let's just say he hasn't been speeding lately. I like to think of this as getting a break.
