The South endzone was the last part of the lower bowl to be built around 1953, I think.

My sig pic that I have had up for several months was taken by a friend's father-in-law when he went to Ole War Skule in the early 50's. My friend recently took the old slides and converted them to jpg files, and sent me 20+ of them of old views all over the campus. This is my favorite, for obvious reasons. I really like how the arches of the North end and the sides of the stadium define Tiger Stadium, and you haven't been able to see this view quite like this for many years. It is very reminiscent of the ancient Roman aqueduct systems.

Note Mike's original cage in the center of the photo. Dude really has a nice crib now compared to that ghetto. Also note how small the trees around the stadium are. This picture was taken 57 years ago!

The PMAC is several decades away, and in the foreground are the steeplechase hurdles for the track stadium. Before Bernie Moore was built the track stands were pretty rickety, with an old cinder track. Used to go to the track meets as a kid with my dad in the mid-60's, then went to many meets at the new stadium. Bernie Moore was and is a palace compared to the old place.

That's Carl Maddox, who was the asst AD under Jim Corbett, until Corbett died in '67, the day after he signed Butch Duhe (another RIP), then Maddox became the AD.

Stovall is rockin' a SWEET purple jersey with the single gold stripe between the white stripes.

Would be a GREAT color pic.

    VINTAGE. :thumb:
