Saban doesn't think so.. go see his interview ( on another thread) on HOW you play the game. According to him, it's very much UGLY if you play poorly, win or lose. I will say that yes, it is better to be lucky AND good.
I agree with saz. I mean, let's be honest, this team is as good as 7-1 come two weeks from now. Alabama is the only team left on our schedule that really has a chance at beating us. Given some of the times that we Tiger fans went through back in the 90's, whodda thunk we'd ever be complaining about 7-1? Our 3 close SEC games were against the elite teams of the conference. Yes, UT and UF are certainly down this year. But these are still top-tier programs that are rich in tradition. Finding ways to beat those kinds of opponents is a sign of strength.
And college football isn't? Maybe not to the extent of the NFL, but hundreds of millions in revenue is not your local mom & pop operation.
I think that if you step back and look objectively at yesterday's game with respect to this season, there was great improvement in HOW they played the game. The defense has improved steadily since the first two games (though I really think our secondary still is a little too soft and we tend to brain fart on 3rd down), the penalties were not nearly as bad against AU, and the turn over problems took a step in the right direction. HOW they play the game is showing steady improvement AND we have a good chance to go into Bama 7-1. What is there to bitch about in the "HOW" area?
