Sheer dominance will prevail over luck in a 3 game series. UT's lucky star may get them 1 win, but not 2. The Tigers are gonna smash UT's lucky star outta the park.
As anyone who has ever set foot in a casino knows, the thing about luck is that it always runs out. "The cardinal rule is to keep them playing and to keep them coming back. The longer they play, the more they lose, and in the end, we get it all." --Ace Rothstein, "Casino" In other words, LSU is playing on another level right now, and Texas is gonna need a lot more than 9th-inning mojo to win it all.
Bullseye! That's the way I've been looking at it. The number 1 team needs 25 innings to win against BC??? wtf??? as I said overrated!!!!! I think LSU is gonna destroy Texas. :tigereye:
As one saw with Arkansas yesterday. You can have all the 9th inning mojo you want but when you're down 12 runs, well, not enough mojo in the pot.
fwiw, i thought all season long that texas was a decent team but without much offensive power. well, they've been hitting the ball pretty well in the CWS. cough it up to good coaching. once you get this far, a good coach can make a huge difference. but mainieri turns into something different in the post-season or in big games -- i can't put my finger on it, but it's something. i may scoff at some of his decisions in the regular season, but i have to remember that he's preparing for the ULTIMATE goal -- to win it all. having said that, i think LSU is going to be VERY tough to beat right now. i'd seriously like to see them play against some minor league teams to see what's up.
That's one thing he and Les Miles have in common. They both do things that make me scratch my head, but I'll be damned, they always work. I guess that's why they make a lot more money than I do.
This. Luck will help you against the evenly-matched teams. But the way LSU is playing right now, the difference won't likely be a gap small enough for sheer luck to close. The biggest thing that stands out to me right now about the Tigers is FOCUS. I've never seen a college baseball teamed this focused, this determined. Watching their demeanor yesterday, you could tell it was just business as usual for them. They weren't getting cocky, lax, or overrun with the joy of just getting to the finals. It was just another day, another opponent dominated, another piece of the puzzle. They're clicking on all cylinders right now, and really just seem to be getting better by the game. Seems like everybody they put on the field is in the zone. I still don't think I've ever seen a ball hit as hard as Schimpf's homer. I think the cover actually came off the ball. To me, that's just indicative of their killer instinct. They're playing ball like a bunch of cold-blooded assassins.
Awesome post. You summed it up very well. I had to highlight some of my favorite parts though. :thumb:
