And it's not just this game. It's the bigger picture. I would have made my comments win or lose tonight. It's just not good enough basketball. Jones will easily get outcoached against the great coaches of this game.
It's like the cookie cutter movie that plays down to the audience. You don't have to see much more to know how it ends. I hope you're right in your faith. Let's hope Jones learns how to coach, and soon.
I think some of you guys are to negative on the coach and the players. This was the "first" road game in the SEC. Mickey has his worst game and Martin wasn't much better. I thought Johnny Jones made time outs at the right times in the game. It isn't anyone's fault Mickey had a bad game. I was impressed at how well the surrounding players played in this game. They did a lot of good things, great decisions by Quarterman. They aren't consistent and need a lot of work Remember West Virginia's only loss is to LSU on the road. Its one game! Its not Johnny Jones fault they made so many mental errors in this game. There was a lot of indecision on offense partly because Mickey got into foul trouble and never got into the flow of the game. He couldn't even make free throws.I do understand though they need some work. Mickey and Martin were also careful on defense, they picked up a lot of fouls quickly in this game, Mickey did anyway.
Not impressed with point guard. Our NBA boys struggled. Support did pretty good, but basketball is a game of W/L more than good effort. Impressed with Hornsby's clutch shot to end regulation. Still a lot of basketball to play, but this sure looks like a bad sign to me. Maybe if this continues M&M stay for another year?
Exactly. It used to be that after a less than spectacular game, a loss, fans would express some discontent but optimism and move on. Now a days, if you don't win every game in every sport convincingly, the coach is in over his head, fans will never show up, and we need to move on to a new HC. Ridiculous really. We are less than 10 games into the season, they are still gelling as a team filled with starting newcomers. Patience, gentleman. Patience. I for one am quite excited and optimistic about this season. Having said that, that Patterson kid needs to refrain from shooting for a while. His shots weren't even close, were ill-timed, and likely cost us that game. If he works the ball down low rather than shooting long threes, the end of regulation and OT are likely different. Gray was off, too, but he is a dynamic PG.
No ball movement and Patterson is a black hole. No player movement either. They need to play much better. But the coaching was not good. I do like quartermann.
That was the big thing I noticed as well. We made a lot of passes, but it was just back and forth. The players without the ball weren't moving and forcing the defense to make adjustments. On Quarterman, I agree completely. He had a couple of times late in the 2nd half that he faked shots and then moved to find a better shot once the defender was out of position. Honestly, felt like he was the only one who was creating anything offensively.
