Honestly, I expected better out of a former player. This is the first year I have gotten the chance to see them so often but I'm not impressed.
Yeah, I hear you. Good questions. Probably okay with motivation. Making in-game adjustment, use of timeouts, etc, could definitely be better. It's a tough thing to gauge right now though (right now meaning year 3 of CJJs tenure, as opposed to the specific game of this year). Not sure if this is how it'll always be. So many moving parts regarding players and coaches during the first 3 years, that I think he is trying to balance a lot of challenges. JM2 are highly touted, and in just their 2nd years, and are already our "experienced" go to guys. Meld that with a freshman PG now starting, a JC transfer PG, and another starter who just transferred. Do you let them just go at it and earn their humps, or do you make a lot of adjustments/call timeouts? Or, is he just slow to pull the trigger on timeouts? Don't know. Regarding strategy, as the season has progressed, by and large, it is clear that the team strategy is to get the ball down low to their strength, JM2. I think the players themselves lapse occasionally, and get into the mold of throwing up shots too quickly trying to push the tempo, but I think that is young ness/inexperience, and not coached. And, to answer your other question, I have watched every game aired, start to finish. When I can't watch live, I DVR it, and watch in entirety
I knew you had watched some games. My question was a gentle poke. With the talent we have I'm puzzled by the losses to Auburn, Missouri, & A&M at a minimum. Jones appears to be a pretty good recruiter. I'm still not sold that he's a solid game day coach. No consistency Too few peaks and too many valleys.
I hear you. I will say that A&Ms a better team than most of us realize, and have very experienced SEC coaching. IMO, we seem to have our biggest challenges against real active/mobile big guys down low like A&M has. AUBs pretty descent, too. We've only lost a total of 8 games. Same as UNC, OU, OSU and only one more loss than Butler, and Baylor. Difference is in expectations and build up. Everyone thinks we are so talented and expect that to equal winning every time out. Just need to keep competing, gelling, and getting experience.
Don't count me in the expect to win every time out crowd. We are talented, but we are also young which often shows in our performance on the court. As I said previously we are just too inconsistent. Everything I've read says we need to go 3 & 1 to make the field. Right now, ESPN's bracket guru Joe Lunardi has us projected as a #11 seed.
Didn't mean you personally. Here's reference to that inconsistency you're talking about. http://www.wwltv.com/story/sports/ncaa/lsu/2015/02/22/lsu-basketball-ncaa-touranemtn/23837415/
i don't think its cjj. the team isn't as talented as most think. but mainly its that m&m don't play hard all the time. the other players do. i think its a problem many tall highly regarded players have--laziness. it makes sense, do the easiest thing that works. but what works in high school won't work as much in college. that being said. there is a good chance they get in the ncaa tourney win Ls against OM and Arky. the team has more good wins that most bubble teams (tamu's only good wins are against lsu) and has a good road record.
