It's funny that you all seem surprised Johnny Jones is an awful coach. He's worked his ass off to prove it for the last couple of years.
Imagine where the team would be if Ben Simmons's Godfather wasn't an LSU assistant coach. Plus....Simmons would have developed so much further under Coach K and Duke would be #1 in the country.
Ben Simmons could use another year of college to develop a 15-18 footer and some killer instinct...but he won't get either with current coaching.
What's he going to learn under Jones? I think he needs to go play against NBA talent to develop there. He isn't learning anything at LSU. If he was at Duke maybe, but I think he needs to start playing in the NBA, he will learn more.
Simmons is here because he had one year to waste until he could go to the NBA so why not go with his godfather. He probably regrets it now but ultimately he just wants to finish his one year out of high school.
He did have recruiting sanctions for a while, but I agree, he had his shot. Would we throw money at a really good coach?
