In the past 9 Final Fours, there have been 22 different participants. Of those, 68% (15/22) have only been once: LSU! Kentucky Stanford Utah Ohio State Wisconsin Arizona Indiana UCLA Illinois Louisville George Mason Texas Oklahoma State Syracuse Four teams have been twice in the last 9 years: Florida Kansas Maryland UConn Two teams have been 3 times: Duke UNC The team with the most appearances since 1998? Michigan State with 4 Finally, there are a total of 334 Division I teams playing basketball. Brady's team is one of the elite 6% that have been to the Final Four at least once in 9 years. If your team gets to the final four once in 9 years, I'd say it's something to celebrate.
add me to the number of people who are amazed it took until the end of January for this thread to show up!
certainly his value was more than just his 3pt%, but in the 5 tourney games 3-6 2-8 1-2 1-6 0-3 7-25 overall, not bad, but certainly wasnt a factor in the last 3 games.
If people were honest, they'd admit Brady is an average coach. He had a great run last year and that buys him (rightfully so) a few more years. IMO, Brady is capable of winning enough games to keep his job. He will get us to the NCAA tourney every now and then. He will make a nice run every now and then if the draw is right. He will have his share of bad years, as well. Brady is not a coach that can take LSU, or any program, to the next level and keep it there. More importantly, does anyone really care? Doesn't seem like many people do, inlcuding the athletic dept.
TigerWins, you and I are on the same exact page. It all depends on what you want out of your basketball program in the end.
It's a very small fraternity that you expect Brady (or whoever LSU's coach is) to join. Coach K, Roy Williams, Tom Izzo and Billy Donavan are the only current members of the "next level" club. The Badger coach is pushing for membership. Is Bobby Knight's club at that level? Pitino's? Tubby Smith's? Not really. Fans want their team to be a formidable power competing for NC's every year. It's only natural. Reality, however is another matter.
Yeah but we would gladly take a coach on the level of a Pitino, Tubby or Knight. While these coaches aspire to be in the "next level" club as you so eloquently put it, Brady teeters on the brink of the "mediocre" club.
I was not raised to care about basketball. It's just not a game that anyone in my family has played or cared about. My stepdad got me hooked on baseball, and my dad and grandpa had me on football from the get-go. Now that I am a student, I think I'm supposed to care about the bball team, so I do. I atteneded many men's and women's games last year, and even took a road trip to Bama with the men. This year, I have not enjoyed myself at the games, and so I do other things- I didn't even realize the team played yesterday. The fact of the matter is that in the current state of affairs, the men need to win- consistently. Until they do that, no one outside traditional bball fans or LSU die-hards will care about the game, and therefore no one will show up. How to fix this? With the "upside" we have? Coaching. And that's all I can say, not knowing much about the game. I'll let you guys decide whether or not to fire him.
