A huge road win for the Tigers. This was one of the games I thought we could possibly lose on the road in the SEC b/c it's so hard to win at Arky. The key to winning was only 8 turnovers. Tmitch stepped up big time. This sets up a really good game Saturday against Tenn. They are playing really well right now. Must win home games.
Re: Tigers Win!!!! He did do a "helluva job". You'd have known that if you had listened to it. Glen was something like 5 of 19 from the floor.
Re: Tigers Win!!!! No doubt. I've posted before that someone needed to step up as the third option, as all good basketball teams try to have a "triangle" of offensive options. The question this season has been who is it going to be? Clearly it's either Tyrus or Tasmin, but my vote would have been and still is that it needs to be Tas. While Tyrus is a man-child, his game is predicated on hitting the boards, getting rebounds and blocked shots, dunks and affecting the game in a defensive way. Along the way, he picks up 13, 14, 15 points without much fanfare because he's not necessarily initiating the offense... he's responding to the offense. No doubt Tyrus will step up big for us, but he may not be the guy (right now) that takes the big shot when the chips are down. Tas' on the other hand is a slasher, hits the mid range jumper and occassional 3. He also can dribble and create, which is going to be a huge complement to Davis and Mitchell. Having an option of drawing up an out of bounds play for a 12 foot jumper with Davis and Thomas setting screens for someone who can hit that shot dependably is key... that guy needs to be Tas'. So, if Tas can up his average by 4 points, or 2 baskets a game, I think we're going to be doing very well with four guys who average 12 or more. Note that Arkansas only has 2 guys who average double digits... As for Arkansas D, I couldn't listen to the whole game, but they played mostly man. They feed off of their defense, forcing TOs, and zone isn't their style. I noted that Brady went zone to trigger the Tigers getting back into it in the first half (could it be, ... coaching? ). As the Tigers were able to force Arkansas, a not very great 3 point shooting team, to slow it down. I'd like to see Brady experiment with a few other zone defenses to go with our otherwise pretty decent man d... P.S. Props also go out to Garrett Temple, who plays near 40 minutes and plays great d to go with 7 points, and also Darnell who puts in 20 minutes of solid back up play. :geauxtige Now, let's close on Terry Martin, Jr. today!
good teams in basketball are built by knowing what their roles and goals are. I think this team has the ability to understand what their role is on the court and how that will allow them to reach the goals at the end of the season. As much as I wish Tac was on the floor, I just don't think he will ever understand what his role is on this basketball team. Winning this game was like 2 wins.. Now lets beat an up and coming Tennessee team at HOME.
