  4. You are correct. It was rumored that ESPN had contacted CBS about possibly getting the rights to broadcast the game which of course would have been at night. Obviously that didn't pan out. I don't have a problem with it being a day game at Bama.

  5. You've got this a little backwards.

CBS would have to negotiate with ESPN for them to have the rights to broadcast the game at night. Before they'd get to the ESPN negotiations, they'd have to go through the SEC offices to start. No contact was made with the SEC to move the game.

If you recall back in 2011 CBS had to get the rights for that game from ESPN (in exchange for other concessions including taking into consideration the impending conference expansion and what games that would bring.)
  6. I'm a little confused by your response. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't CBS own the rights to broadcast the game at 2:30? If that's true and ESPN wants to air the game it seems like they would have to contact CBS.
  7. CBS has first choice which is their afternoon broadcast. ESPN with second choice takes this one. CBS has to buy it from ESPN. They (ESPN/SECN) own the rest of the games except one double header per year.

CBS would have to go to the SEC for the change as first step. It's a change in broadcast revenue as one of a few reasons...then to ESPN.

  9. I have difficulty doing the multi quote option so I'm going to try this.
#1 CBS has first choice which is their afternoon broadcast. Agree

#2 ESPN with second choice takes this one. Which one?

#3 CBS has to buy it from ESPN Buy what?

#4 They (ESPN/SECN) own the rest of the games except one double header per year. Agree

#5 It's a change in broadcast revenue as one of a few reasons...then to ESPN
I can't see the SEC objecting. To me it's an increase in broadcast revenue. You get your normal CBS afternoon game and a prime time ESPN game featuring SEC teams. To me it's win - win.
