I really don't think the high ranking of Texas is all that unwarranted. They lost one game last year (OU) and beat some good teams. Sure, they also went down to the wire to beat some pretty bad teams (Kansas and OSU come to mind), but they did win them.

There's a lot of parity at this point, so most of the rankings are a bunch of hooey when you overanalzye them.

Trust me, I hate UTexas as much as the next guy, but I also think people sell them short for "not winning their conference" when the team they lose to happens to be OU. Just my humble opinion, but that's not such a bad team to lose to. Especially since they save their meltdowns for the end of the year.

I think we'll see the rare trifecta in the Big XII South. UT over OU. OU over A&M. A&M over UT. They all screw each other. Hopefully A&M comes out on top of the three team tie (ignoring away games at CU and TT, obviously.)

One thing that amazes me is how people forget Texas has no pass offense... Their ground game may be hard to stop, but if Oklahoma can stop it, and I think they will, I still see OU's win streak over the 'Horns continuing.

It's probably easy to forget because it's not really true.

Texas is a one man team at this point. VY threw 12 TD's last season, but also threw 11 INTs. For what little passing he did, he almost threw an INT for every TD he threw. Now that Cedric Benson is gone a legitamite running game is seemingly out of the question. I doubt Texas will gamble by putting VY's health on the line even more now that Benson is gone. Their backup RB is supposedly good, but got injured early on last season, so it's hard to tell at this point.

And if you want to play the game of hyping a team because of the Rose Bowl performance, then Texas' pass defense is awful, because Henne passed at his own will in that game. I just see Texas as a one man team, and one man can't win it all.

They have a good OL and DL. Beyond that, what warrants them a #2 ranking? Where is the depth at QB and RB? Where are their stud receivers? Where are their linebackers?

Be sure to get back to me.

Logan, I hear you. I freaking hate Texas. I'm surrounded by them here. But, they've recruited very well for years, and there's always decent depth. I know that sounds like a cop out (and to some extent it is, as I don't have enough time to follow their roster like LSU's.)

However, with an admittedly good OL, their offense should be fine. Young rushed for over 1000 yards, and they've got two stud RBs that are apparently looking good. They don't need a Roy Williams at WR to get the job done...they need more of a Sloan Thomas (and guys like that are a dime a dozen at UT.)

I mainly don't think they're overrated primarily b/c I can't see a team that should be higher than them at this point. Pre season polls are BS anyway, but still, can you say that any other team will be better them? I sure as hell can't (and like I said earlier, I wish I could.)

Let's see... Their pass offense ranked 106th in the country last season. Young's pass/rush ratio was closer than 2:1, and he had a rating of just 128.4. Little talent at WR. Texas just ain't a good passing team.
