It's a subject of conversation, not something drastically important, but it IS something I consider worthy of note. Feel it's a bad thing? I've never said anything that indicated, or even hinted, that it's a bad thing. I've said it's unprecedented as far as I know and because of that it's a mystery—ALL in an effort to offer a window in how some of the AP voters are feeling about LSU. Alabama sending more juniors to the NFL? What does that have to do with this conversation?
My point is that all teams have suffered turnover--some more than others--and there is a bit of a mystery for all teams regarding new faces. Lots of teams lost more than 11 seniors, is there no mystery about their new faces? Why the emphasis on the loss of junior starters? A starter is a starter. LSU has 13 returning starters . . . exactly the same as Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, and Clemson. That is more returningstarters than Florida, Louisville, Texas A&M or South Carolina. Among the top-10 only Stanford and Oregon return more starters than LSU. YOU asked the question about LSU "Is it fair to say it's a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma...?" The answer is No. There is not that damn much mystery, just some faces that are new, like many other teams. You were engaging in some exaggerated hyperbole. We're talking about sending juniors to the NFL. LSU isn't the only team that does so. Sensitive topic?
besides with a good passing attack lsu's offense won't be so predictable, thus making teams respect our running and passing and have to adjust to our play calling.
Stacey and Red, your points are well taken. LSU's loss, "exodus", of some many JRs to the NFL is not necessarily a negative, but a sign of how good we are recruiting, and preparing our players, and is a shift in how to prepare. Many are saying that ALAs players are "worn out" when they enter the NFL. During recruiting, LSU can point to player preparation as a strength, and how we are maintaining success on our own team in addition. Play early, battle for the NC, and leave early to NFL. Sounds like a good recipe, and a recruiting position.
The AP is irrelevant and I couldn't care less what they think. The last time I cared what the AP thought was the day before they tried to split our NC with USCw. Quite honestly AP can gft. Win and none of this matters.
I'm glad they are gone. At least Reid, Mingo, and Montgomery. I'd like to still have Minter and Ware, and Tharold Simon, but that's really it. I loved all those guys and am glad they all played at LSU but it almost seemed at times Mingo Montgomery and Reid all had their minds on the NFL and not on LSU. I like this years DLine more than last years.
Seriously...if not for all the holds, there would have been about six sacks last night. I'd take Wing back at this point, though.
by holds you mean MMA style grappling take down tackles from behind right? More than once I was like ... shit boy you fucking tackled my linemen.
