and Mamouis well known too, doesnt make it a cultural center.. wasnt the point i was making.. someone insinuated that Zachary is as country as Gueydan.. lets see... Zachary is a bedroom community to the states second largest city, it has an 83 percent graduating rate (compared to 60 percent in Gueydan), the average home price is over 100k (compared to 40k in Gueydan)... The whole point was that when Louisiana is shown in the media it is either New Orleans or the bayou.. New Orleans we all look like degenerates, the Bayou we look like illiterates.. either way, it doesnt exactly portray Louisiana is a positive light.. Yeah, the culture brings money here through tourism.. its like that in another state, Hawaii, and just like in Hawaii, it keeps other, more important business away. I would much rather see them at one of the universities in the state like i have seen for other states.. show that Louisiana actually has universities and not a couple tech schools and an ag college...

Since you seem to think Zachary is the **** please tell us what exactly does Zachary have to offer tourists?? Outside of a golf course what is there to do or see in Zachary? What would ESPN showcase to the rest of the nation?
Maybe Knotts could make sausage for them?
Zachary is an ok little town, calling it a bedroom community is a stretch but OK if thats waht you want to call it. Please fill us in on just what ESPN is overlooking by not coming to zachary.. I am being serious, what are we missing out on?

When did I ever say a god damned thing about ESPN needed to go to Zachary? wtf? I said that they need to go somewhere other than Gueydan because it is the typical portrayal of Louisianians as backwards rednecks living on the bayou with an alligator in the backyard. THen someone said that basically, someone from zachary doesnt have room to talk and I said that calling Zachary similar to Gueydan is a false comparison. Dont come in talking crap if you dont read the whole thread. So.. as I said...

Go back and look at the posts that got you stirred up (look at the emoticons). You should recognize it when somebody's jerking your chain.

C'mon guano, lighten up. Football's just around the bend. :hihi:

I do see locoguano's point though...Remember the movies THE WATERBOY or DELIVERANCE...those really portray Louisiana and Louisianians in a great light. I had friends from Wisconsin ask me one time back in high school if I took a boat or pirogue to school everyday. If any of y'all saw the Wife Swap show on Fox where they had a couple from Bayou Blue...the guy ran a swamp tours business and they had subtitles whenever the boy "ZZ" spoke...it makes anyone from outside LA to think we're all that way. I called a college friend of mine, a girl from Gray, LA, who worked for FOX at that time on that show and fussed at her for that very reason.
It's just like the use of Cajun that gets tossed out all the time when talking about New Orleans. The Acadians that came down from Novia Scotia and settled in and around the Lafayette area, their descendants were Cajuns...not New Orleanians. My mother who grew up in Gretna but lives in Lafayette is 77-year's old and gets very upset at this.
It's not a battle over if Zachary is better than Gueydan or Cut Off is better than Dry Prong....it's about how the national media potrays people in the South, but particularly from Louisiana.
