1. He should have been on Brady's radar. He was the district 3-5A MVP his sophomore season. He was the district AAAAA player of the year (over Tasmin). He is a 6' 5" versatile player who can play guard, wing, or forward. He plays good defense. I guess since he's a good kid he wasn't on Brady's radar, since Tac Minor got a freakin' scholarship after being kicked off of his high school team. Think about this in football terms: If a 5A district MVP is a sophomore running back/quarterback, I bet LSU would be recruiting him hard to play football at LSU. I'm glad he didn't go to LSU--Brady probably would have redshirted him this year. If I was a parent of a high school basketball recruit, I think I would probably throw up if brady came into my house and tried to b.s. my son. Bobby Knight in a kid's house is probably "Saban-like," while Brady's used car looking, 5 o'clock shadow ass probably seems more "Orgeron-esque."
  2. Can you explain why no other major college program recruited him, other than Knight?
  3. Probably because he broke his arm his junior year, and Knight signed him early before his senior year after he saw him play in a summer league game. If Brady was on him after his sophomore year, then he might have come to LSU.
  4. Silly old man, we are supposed to have more Texas players on our team since a team from Texas has so many Louisiana players. It's a shame we have so many Louisiana kids starting. We could be pissing off fans of the Texas college teams!

  6. I have followed Martin and have watched him excell in several events.

    1. Top ten HS long jump and triple jump last two years.
    2. Won Class 5A 400 M easily. Perhaps Glen Oaks Dillard (Class 4A) could have challenged him.
    3. Participated in Sulphur's 4x400 relay because he is a team player.
    4. Coach Knight recruited Martin for his defensive skills. Martin said in a Lake Charles American Press story that if he played defense well enough he would be allowed to shoot a little bit.
    5. The way that it was presented to me by a Sulphur booster is that Coach Knight scouted Martin at a basketball camp in Texas. He was the only one looking at Martin. The other coaches were there to observe the "high-profile" athletes. The Tiges missed a gem.
    6. Martin is well-mannered, humble, and very well liked. Even the rival Lake Charles Barbe High School athletes that competed against him wish him continued success.
