Some of the comments in the thread raised my curiosity so I did some reading. For all the talk about relations being so bad, I was shocked to find the piece below. Confuses me how such a situation could exist with the situation as it is. Unless he a uncle tom. That's what my black friends would call a black who had REALLY good relations with whites. Actually, back then the word negro was the preferred choice for the sake of being politically correct. It took the place of "colored." To call an African American "black" was the most offensive of the three, back then. Course, there was no such term as "African American" back then either. http://ri.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0LEV76mE0BVWUYAbGcPxQt.;_ylu=X3oDMTEzZGxhZTFsBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMzBHZ0aWQDWUhTMDA0XzEEc2VjA3Ny/RV=2/RE=1430291495/RO=10/RU=http://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/wayne-county/2015/03/07/detroit-police-department-diversity/24570427//RK=0/RS=pUybo.EhY8KVvj2oUpQQvLfZJqw-
As to the riots, I was VERY happy to see so many leaders of the (whatever the correct term is these days) community break rank and file to take a stand against the violence- in numbers that we've not seen to date. This needs to happen more.
I don't think accusing Mastermind of "doing stupid shit" is rational or at all constructive. I do not know Mastermind personally but I gather from his posts that he is a thoughtful and successful guy who is probably the anti-thesis of those thugs looting and rioting. I get it that you are angry and, frankly, after watching the scene there it is hard not to be. That said, let's not lose our heads over it and start over generalizing here. Unfortunately a few idiots can make it bad for everyone. I am a business owner and when I see what those guys are doing to those businesses it makes me sick to my stomach.
Well said. And mastermind has no requirement as a black man to take shit for the sins of others of the same race. The same way none of us pale faces want to take blame for the Livingston parish meth heads. Or any walmark people.
You're right government assistance isn't much and those who claim people on it are fat dumb and happy are wrong. There may be 1 or 2 who cheat the system and live better but most don't. The problem is the system does nothing but trap those not strong enough or well educated into a cycle. The poor have the worst of the education system and rarely good mentor/parent guidence. The only apparently successful one are drug dealers, pimps, rappers or jocks. The very few who get educated and find good jobs leave for their own safety or desired living standard. Most have no role models worth while. Again the state incentivizes single parent not couples raising children. It is a viscous system that leaves wasted lives in its wake.
its all relative. of course its not enough to make you rich but its free money and a lot more than nothing. and since this vacuum of dependency has spanned generations, this expectation has become permanent. entitlements do little more than create entitled people in the long term.
I would call them more dependent than entitled. They can see no other path and have been conditioned that their only recourse is as it is. No other group of people has been so mislead or abused by those who are called their leaders. They have been fed and mislead that it is their due however.
