Respect goes a much longer way than fear, my friend. My Dad would spank me without hesitation when I deserved it, but he would no more punch me in the head than he would stab me or shoot me in the chest. And all punishment was private, never public. I've seen mothers slap their 6-year olds hard across the face and scream at them to SHUT UP while in line at Wal-Mart. That just raises another generation of abusive parents. My mom would quietly tell me to behave or when we get home you will get a spanking. And I knew that was exactly what would happen. Believe me, that's all it took. Do you think that teenager will straighten up now that his Mom beat the hell out of him publicly and its viral on the internet? I think one of them could end up shot by the other within 2 years.
