I still watch Gameday, more out of tradition than anything else. The thing we have to realize is LSU is never going to get a lot of hype from them early on. They will always hype the media darlings (ie USC and Notre Dame) at the beginning of the year whether they deserve it or not. At the beginning of the year there are just too many teams with the potential to be good that they can't show love to everyone so they have their favorites. As the year goes on we will get our respect if we win. On the media bias: Just my opinion but I don't think the media favors the west coast teams over the rest of the country. The problem is they give them equal time and most of those teams don't deserve it. It just seams like the media is always talking about west coast teams because, with the exception of USC, how really cares? We just notice it more.
Same here. I wake up starving for college football on Saturday mornings, and first kickoff doesn't start till 11:00 am. Gameday fills that hole till then.
From Kirk's chat right now on ESPN.com Flash: Birmingham, AL: Kirk, why didn't the gameday crew go to Auburn this weekend. #3 vs. #6, no other match-up with that kind of billing, is there? Kirk Herbstreit: (3:29 PM ET ) Absolutely not. That's a great question and I wish I had the answer for it. Chris, Lee and I don't make the decision on where we go. We get a call, typically on Sunday or Monday and they let us know where we're going. Rest assured that when the three of us left Austin, TX last week, that we were all assuming that we'd meet up again at Auburn. I was as surprised as you.
I saw that. I posted a question to him as well. I do not know if he will answer it. (I think I already know the answer though.) I asked if Gameday is now married to the ABC prime time game since he is in the booth.
Translation: ESPN has already coached me on how to respond to this question that i will hear a few hundred times this week.
Herbie sticks by his pick on AUB winning the west. Surprise Surprise... I hope he keeps his record in tact. Jon McShane Oxford, MS: Kirk, who do you think will come out on top of the Auburn/LSU game this weekend? Kirk Herbstreit: (3:37 PM ET ) Well, I picked Auburn to win the SEC, so I think you can probably read between the lines as to who I think will win. I think the combo of Brandon Cox and Kenny Irons will be the difference in the game. That and the homefield advantage of Jordan-Hare. War Eagle!
If Kirk did his research and see Irons has a pulled groin, I don't think he'd say Irons will be the difference maker. Still, I think his response on why Gameday didn't go to LSU vs. Auburn was an honest one. He whores himself out to Auburn every year, why wouldn't he want to be there? I think Tubby gives him handy's under that desk. It's the only reason I can come up with as to why he has a love affair with Auburn.
Skip and Woody picked Auburn on Cold Pizza. They both gave them the edge because it is at Jordan-Hare.
