Skip seems very confident that Miles is not going anywhere. Hopefully Miles, has learned from Nick's mistake. I look at Bowden as an example, Bama guy, but knows his legacy is at FSU. Plus, I don't see :milesmic: being nearly as sucessful at Michigan as he was here. It will be Nick part 2, okay coach before LSU, LSU perfect blend, leaves LSU and goes back to being okay.

I have heard the Spurrier rumors since before the Va Tech game, and we could do worse, but do we really want someone who is only going to be here so long, and who is currently enduring his worst losing streak since coaching at Duke?

If he does leave, you know Skip has a back up plan, he did well once, and I have no reason to believe he won't make a strong hire again.

I don't think we could do better. If I had a choice of any coach, he'd be the one.

The one thing that comes to mind with SOS is I don't think DC's find his offense that intimidating or difficult to defend anymore. It was a new thing in the SEC in the 90's but as the decade went on, if with the athletes he was recruiting in Florida, defenses were able to contain it.

Heck, I think Art Briles offense is more difficult to defend today than Spurrier's.

You most certainly would if we kept on winning. Winning cures everything...

We said the same thing about CUM's spread offense. It wouldn't work in the SEC because of the speed of the defenses. One NC later and we were all wrong. Today's college football is all about recruiting. I'm not sure how many 4-5 star recruits want to be a SC Cock, but I think SOS would be able to continue the excellent recruiting trend at LSU.

BTW, you're right about Briles offense being difficult to defend. If you've even watched Houston's offense, they come up with some very innovative plays. It's very fun to watch unless they're playing your team. I've been saying this since seeing them in person against USM a couple of years ago.

Not that it necessarily means anything about Miles, but a recent "behind-the-scenes" type of pre-game segment on Bowden explained how he came really, really close to leaving FSU for the Bama job. Basically, it came down to Bowden wanting to be offered the job without any type of lengthy interview process. He showed up for a secret meeting thinking he was going to be offered the job, and it turned out the immediate offer was not going to happen. So he left, and announced he was staying as FSU.

IF Carr resigns next week, and IF LSU makes it to the National Championship Game on January 7th, Miles will not officially talk with UM until January 8th. IF it takes them a week to ink a deal, that does not give us much time to get a new HC and staff in place before national signing day. What does that do to our recruiting class?

What does that do to UM's recruiting class. Can they really risk not having a coach lined up until mid January? If Miles chooses not to go and stay at LSU UM will be screwed.

I believe Bertman has a short list of both HC and DC he will pursue but when do you start pursuing them with the National Championship game so late in January?

That's the magic word there. "Official" discussions are just a formality, the leg work will be done way before- both sides. Our wheels are already in progress and I'm not worried ONE BIT.

I remember people saying that the spread wouldn't work in the SEC because of the speed of the defenses. It wasn't something I agreed with because I always had to consider that while the defenses were faster than what his team had faced so was the offensive talent.

His offense is one recruiting mistake from not working I feel. If you think about Tebow and just assume he didn't pan out to be the player he is where would Florida be?

This Gator team is going to be a force to be reckoned with the next few years. A LOT of young players on that team.
True story. To this day, I don't understand and can't fathom why on earth you would interview a coach like Bowden with a freakin' search committee. It's pretty clear that move ended up costing Joab Thomas (the Pres at that time) any level of trust/respect he had at the time. Not to mention Thomas going after Curry when he hadn't even brought the name up to Board member meetings.
