If the same thing happens to me, I pull out my ID and show it to the officer who is doing his job. I thank him and apologize for the misunderstanding. I don't show my ass. Gates was the one who acted stupidly here and it had nothing to do with race. In that situation, the officer is the boss and it's not in my best interests to cop an attitude. I also agree that the "Chicago Obama" showed up in the off the cuff response to a question that should never have been asked in that forum.
Ok. Whoever owned a slave stand up. That's an old story. And I've been harassed by black cops, but I condemn that guy... Plus, that wouldn't make the news. And I think it said PROSECUTORS dropped the charges. I'm sure the officers are pissed. You charge someone in their own home because home is not effin BASE. No ones playing freeze tag.
I wouldnt expect you to understand the context I was speaking in. But its cool, carry on. An old story, lol thats funny. Can you honestly tell me if your ancestors and immediate family (grandparents and parents) suffered slavery, discrimination, beatings, water hoses, dogs, and lynchings, it wouldnt effect your outlook on life? My granfather was on the beach at Normandy in the US Army and police officer beat the hell out of him upon his return to Louisiana. That wouldnt effect your outlook? Can you answer that honestly?
I think I agree with most here. The cops were responding to a call, dude fit the vague profile and was not cooperating, exactly how a cornered burglar might act. The call reported two perps, so that was in the back of the cops minds. Cops have to deal with BS all day and can't really afford or be expected to be touchy feely in the heat of the moment. This guy should have cooperated. He was upset, which isn't inconceivable, but that doesn't excuse his behavior. I can understand the argument in either direction, without being there I'd say it is a close call. When it is a close call, I'd defer to the police, particularly an officer with a good record. If it were an old crochety white man like SabanFan who acted up and then got thrown into the paddywagon, I don't think I'd really be too upset about it. SabanFan says he'd cooperate, but maybe if the cop started spewing some liberal propoganda he'd come unglued. I think dropping the charges are warranted, it was a misunderstanding and the prof understandably allowed his emotions to get the better of him. There is no need to carry this through, though it seems the prof hasn't learned a lesson and is threatening a law suit.
No. But I can't go downtown without being harassed cause I'm white. And I can't have an opinion without being racist. I'm supposed to be afraid of certain people. I can answer that honestly. And that's happening now, not years and years ago. I got beat up when I was a kid for being a nerdy white boy. And it was happening to me, not my ancestors.
No reason for the guy to be mouthing off. No reason for the cop to arrest him No reason to file a lawsuit against the police department No reason for Obama to comment without all the facts however it was stupid to arrest the guy after you find out its his house what burglar answers the door, walking on a cane?
I think you just missed the point, so nevermind. And if they are harrassing you, take a pistol and get them off your ass. You can have an opinion and not be racist, but if its a racist opinion, dont deny that. Who are you supposed to be afraid of? You shouldnt be afraid of anyone. Ive been harrassed and called racist names and thats happening now, whats your point? I was harrassed and had to fight by black kids because I wouldnt join a gang? I guess I dont understand your point. If someone black broke in my house and I was home, I am going to put to 9mm bullets in his ass. I am not going to sit there and say oh hes black I'll let him rob me.
