On returning from the moon, the Apollo 11 astronauts were required to fill out declaration forms with U.S. Customs Service stating they had left the country and were returning, and that they were bringing foreign material (moon rocks) into the country. I don't believe any other Apollo astronauts had to do this, so it was either a case of government anal behavior, or possible even a joke (at the conclusion of the Apollo 13 mission, Grumman Corp. (manufacturer of the lunar module) "billed" McDonnell Douglas (command module builder) for towing services and overnight accomodations).
Martin Van Buren holds an interesting distinction as an ex-President. He lived to see 8 other Presidents elected after leaving office himself, more than any other. Jimmy Carter is challenging that record; Biden is the 7th President to take office of Carter's post-presidency.
Which reminds me of the seinfeld episode with the van buren gang about to stomp kramer out but he flashed their gang signs by accident. 8 fingers. He was the 8th president. I think he was also our first American born president. Just chiming in.
Interesting. Martin had some help seeing his 8. Two died in office from illness - Harrison lasted 1 month, Taylor 1.5 years - and Lincoln was assassinated. No one else served more than 1 term. Jimmy on the other hand has outlived 3 2 term presidents and 3 one term president. Biden will likely be his 4th 1 term President. Please God, make it so.
Little known fact is Jimmy Hendricks was a good dude. Very nice guy and held no animosity towards whites when he probably had good reason. His band was all white. His bass player was fabulous. Played left handed guitar neck upside down. He was a huge Bob Dylan fan. Just couldn't get the monkey off his back.
The most fraudulent election in history took place in Liberia in 1927. In a country with about 15,000 registered voters, Charles King won the presidency by earning about 234,000 votes.
