You remind me of the first time I went to Talledega for NASCAR. Me and 3 other guys, two of who had noticeable, if not cliche', Cajun accents. We're sitting in the stands on practice day, and there's a young woman sitting by herself a couple of rows down. After about 10 minutes of sitting and talking amongst ourselves, she turns to us and says, "Scuuuuse me, but ah've got to tell y'all Ah just luuuuuuuuve y'all's acccaaaainnnts."

Every US state's name is derived either from the name of a person or from a word native either to its founders or to native Americans....except one. Although the politician who proposed it claimed it was a Shoshone word meaning "gem of the mountains," the word "Idaho" has no etymology to any known language.

I always thought Idaho was an Indian word. And wasn't New Jersey named when Rutgers got new uniforms? And New Mexico after the country.

Is that a misspelling? I have seen a Houston Street. Or are you referring to the movie director John Huston?
