My HOA just dropped off our newsletter on Sunday and this is pretty much the only thing that was on it. I'm all for cleaning stuff up.

The question is, how long before someone driving a litter van gets shot in the face and the company pulls all the vans off of the street?

i don't like government telling you what to do with your yard either, but unfortunately we have a bunch of idiots in this country who are ok with their eye sore property and have no respect for their neighbors, so im cool with this one.

That's why, in addition to laws, we have law enforcement agencies to ensure that law abiding citizens don't have to take the law into their own hands.

    Informative? :usaflagwa

pretty much every city has codes on how property is to be kept. pretty much every city has code inspectors to inspect properties and to fine for code violations whether they go looking for it or are responding to complaints on a property.

codes are there to keep one property from running down the value of an entire area and for health reasons. piles of debris or high grass are homes to rodents and nuisance critters and can often be considered a health or safety hazard.

this is not a new idea. its simply stepped up enforcement of laws that have been on the books for ages.

People that take the law into their own hands are criminals, so yes law enforcement agenices stop criminals.

Oh well I guess you people dont understand property rights, just remeber when your not there to stand up for someones rights they wont be there to stand up for your rights. Dont be mad when the food police knock on your door or when the gun inspectors come in for a look.

But mabye thats what you like. I dont know, but to each his own.:(

I think you are over-exaggerating the invasiveness of this thing. They don't come on your property and clean your stuff up for you. They take a picture and send you a letter saying stop sucking and clean up your freaking yard. You get 2 weeks to get whatever it is done before you get fined...not arrested. HOA's have been enforcing the appearance of homes for years and you have always gotten fined for littering on the interstate. I'm not sure why all of a sudden this is a problem for you.

I hate the fact that it takes someone telling people to do something that they should be doing on their own. It's pretty pathetic that people don't take the pride in their property and their initiative to clean it up themselves. Just because you are afforded property rights doesn't mean you get to abuse them, especially when that abuse directly impacts your neighbors. It's pretty sad when the GOVERNMENT has to enforce common decency.

You're working awfully hard at not getting what everyone is trying to tell you, T10. Funny thing is, everyone you're arguing with is on record here many times over as having conservative values.

Its not a "criminal" issue....your right to let your property be litter-strewn, poorly-maintained, etc, ends when it brings your neighbor's property value down. Every right comes with a responsibility.

Its a slippery slop with these things, and the interstate isnt private property.

    I agree.
You cant abuse right by definition, you cant be punished for rights you have either. I believe people should be able to do what they want on their property.
