Motivated by whom? Fitzgerald is a Justice Dept employee picked by the Bush Admin to investigate this case. I'm sure they checked out Fitzgerald thoroughly before picking him. Then again, maybe they didn't do their homework like they didn't do on Miers...
I know these are serious charges, but did they have to break his legs too? Another example of the Bush Admin. being run like the Mafia! :hihi::hihi:
Well, you haven't heard much, because it's a long way from indictment to conviction. Guilty of what charges? Lying about a conversation that never happened? Fitzgerald admitted that there are no charges related to any supposed "outing of a covert CIA employee". Well, that's what he was hired to investigate. So, if there's no outing then what the hell is he charged with? It's Martha Stewart all over again. If you can't get her on the original charge, then hope one of your shotgun pellets hits something else. Bush haters are acting like this is some huge victory for them but what they don't realize is that Big Brother just took another big step in our direction. So you're disappointed in the Bush administration? Big whoop. You soaked the forum with crocodile tears over Pelini too.
Not to get too far off-topic, but I think ole Big Brother's biggest steps happened in the '04 election, not in some weird CIA investigation/indictment...just my hunch.
Nothing the the indictment said anything about Plame being a covert agent. In order to be a covert agent you had to have had a classifed, covert operation on foreign soil in the last 5 years. It's all still under investigation but Libby was NOT indicted for outing anyone.........esspecially not an agent that was not covert.
Lying under oath and making false statements to federal investigators must be prosecuted. Our judicial system would crumble if we allow anyone to walk into court and make stuff up. I don't understand how you think this is big brother doing something wrong. A potential crime was committed during the course of an investigation. You can't let these things slide as a prosecutor. It doesn't matter if the original crime happened or not.
Obviously, none of us know the true facts, but they will be rooted out now. From what I hear and read, Libby cooperated fully with the special prosecutor, handing over every requested document. His alleged "lying" was actually through omission as he "couldn't recall" some things which the prosecuter says some documents (which Libby provided) disprove. We shall see. Frankly, it looks to me like these charges are the result of the prosecutor's having to show something for 2 years of work. The "Big Brother" aspect is that if they want to get you they will. As Mary Matalin said, "they could indict a ham sandwich if they wanted to." Please note that I did not blame the Democrats/liberals for this indictment.
We'll see if he's guilty or not. I'll be surprised if this ever goes to trial ... more than likely there will be a plea bargain. As for Fitzgerald, anyone who jails a reporter is not all that bad in my book. That tells me he's not a liberal.
I understand what you are saying. Libby was involved in a cover-up. Just like Watergate, Iran-Contra, and Monica, it is often easier to convict officials for ill-advised cover-ups than for any actual crimes committed. But when this goes to trial, who knows what will come out. The Grand Jury testimony is secret, but a trial won't be. There was in fact an "outing" of a CIA agent and more is going to come out. Rove and Cheney may evade prosecution in the end, but they are going to be politically tarred by this, I think.
