Yes I can see it. Our lowest output was at PSU in the infamous 6-4 game...when KF's spent the week w/ Family for his Dad's funeral. The ASU game we were flat and the Defensive coordinator norm parker was at home in a wheel chair. Had we not fumbled five times against Michigan I think Hawkfans would agree we would have scored more than 30 in that game. With a balanced offense I think we can put together four or five scoring drives against LSU during the course of the game. So many times our scoring drives resulted in FGs instead of TD's .. I think our one dimentional attack had a lot to do w/ that anemic red zone offense. Ok Ok Ok I know LSU's defense will be the best we've seen all year long...but I still like our chances.
We think and HOPE the Tigers will be prepared. Why wouldn't we? Also, we are not a team made up of 4 and 5 star recruits. We know we have to properly prepare for each opponent. We expect both teams to play well. Win or lose, you will know you've been in a hard hitting game.
It's not impossible, I'll grant you that, just highly unlikely. Drew Tate will have to be on, for starters. The only time the LSU defense has been raked all year long was when Georgia's QB played the game of his life. I think Iowa's best chance is to force a turnover or two early and get a two-score lead. All that's been going on has to have an effect on the LSU players, and I expect them to take awhile before warming up. Coming from behind is not all that unusual for this bunch, so unless Iowa is up, say, 17-0 at the half, I expect a close, low-scoring first half and LSU pulling out a 7-10 point win. I'll say 17-10. On the other hand, if LSU jumps out early, it's over. We'll run the ball all day long. Iowa can't run the ball anyways, and playing from behind would make them even more one-dimensional. Easy pickins for Muschamp and Saban, if that's the case.
Here's some stats for you (for whatever stats are worth) Iowa finished first in the Big Ten in red zone defense with an amazing 59% (meaning opponents only scored on 59% of TD or FG tries that began in the red zone).... In conference play, the SEC had no team below 80%. The Hawks were second in the Big Ten in red zone offense at 88% scoring on 31 of 35 attempts with 16 td's and 15 fg's. LSU was 83% in red zone offense, fifth in you conference. If you're QB's have an "Arkansas-type" game, you'll do well. If you can't keep Tate from running around, he'll kill ya!! I think this is one of the best match-ups of the bowl season... first one to 17 points wins...
