This is completely accurate. LSU/USC is BY FAR the marquee matchup as far as the media is concerned. There are so many storylines here that the media would be falling all over themselves for this game.

Matchup to decide 2003 (they'd imply it, believe that)
USC going for '3 in a row'
LSU trying to stop 3 in a row while re-gaining their 'title' from 03
Saban - one of the best in football, leaves only to have his talent emerge to play the current 'best' coach in football.
USC shoulda played LSU in their own backyard in 03 for title, now LSU will play USC in their own backyard for title
Two fastest, most talented teams in NCAA history, etc

On and on and on...there is more to hype this game up than we can even imagine - this is before we both play ASU.

Much the same way that USC was given a complete free ride (preseason) last year to the title game because of the perceived 'snub' the two years before...the SEC will NOT get snubbed two years in a row, especially considering the beat down OU got compared to how most analysts thought AU would have fared after the game.

If LSU goes undefeeted, I don't care who started out ahead of us..we will jump them to play USC if they also go undefeated. There are too many overt and subtle factors at play here. Our problem will be going undefeated vs. 6 teams who played in a bowl last year.

Florida is barely considered part of the south.. other than the panhandle, there are more yankees in florida than southerners... I'd say florida folks follow FSU and Miami more than UF...

keep in mind, it's not just about the number of households, it's about the demographics of those households, again - most else being equal. Alabama and Louisiana are two of the poorest states on a per capita basis. Not to mention , the hypre of the marquis matchup between Leinart/Bush-vs-White/Pederson.

it's an opinion poll that's shaped largely on popularity. While else would the media spin be currently directed at promoting USC as making it's run as the MNC Triple Winner?

I can't believe it is being acknowledged on this board that USC is #1, even in a preseason poll. Heck anybody can claim to be #1 right now since everybody is undefeated.

Uhhhhh, yes it wouldn't be the first time that happened to an SEC team would it? I hope it doesn't happen again but if it did happen to LSU this board would make interesting reading.

This is true. The hype over the UT-Ohio St. game will be intense, and if they run the table... Actually, a race between an undefeated #3 LSU team playing a top ten team in the SEC CG and an undefeated #2 Texas team playing a Big XII north team as bad as 7-4 may be won with a much-more impressive LSU win that evening, pushing UT down in the last regular season BCS poll.

Should this happen, many fans in Berkley, California would silently nod their heads in approval. :yelwink2:

Naw, if LSU was in that predicament entering the SEC CG, they would smash their opponent and put them away the way true champions do (or, at least, teams that really want to play for the national title).

Beating Georgia in Atlanta by 21 points---with all eyes around the country trained on you and your game---would qualify as a prime example. Lord knows, you couldn't use last season's SEC CG as an example... :dis:

This scenario would only make it worse for LSU if they were left out. if you get left out, it doesn't matter what the score was in the SECC game.

Well I guess it all depends on whether that's the way SportsCenters spins it, right?
