This is an example of people forgetting after a number of years have passed and generalizing his entire career at LSU. Saban had some very hot moments at LSU such as the easy wins turned to losses, the team not holding on to large leads, some off the field antics of his players, and keeping Jimbo around, etc... There are some fans who have never liked Miles from the beginning and others who have not been happy about the results the last 2 years but just like when Saban won the NC in 2003 all was forgotten for the most part. However, the 2004 season brought many of these criticisms back to the forefront. Just the name of the game. One major difference is that Saban had almost nothing to lose coming in to LSU because the expectations were realistic. Miles came in with a ton of pressure to match the results and he has done that plus a little more so far.
Bama fans are also in uncharted territory now. Bama has hitched its wagon firmly to Saban, and it's highly doubtful he'll go anywhere in the immediate future. But the fact is that Nick Saban has never stuck around at any program he's taken to the top before. It's one thing to reach the top of the mountain, and quite another to stay there. Who knows? He might do just as good a job maintaining Bama as a top program as he did taking it back there. But the question is if he goes through 2 or more seasons in Tuscaloosa like Miles had here, how long would the fan love affair last?
What standard? Clearly there are two standards, bama and everyone else. The reality is, LSU would be foolish to get rid of Miles. Any school with his record would. Except bama.
I am sure that after just over 3 years he is humbled over the bronze statue of his own likeness, soon to be erected.
Les Miles again doing a great job representing LSU, and LA. people who have very real concerns. I enjoyed the good natured bantering. :LSU231:
He did not follow a winning coach so expectations were in the tank. And he underwhelmed in 2004. No telling what people would think or "expect" of him had he stayed. But he bolted when he smelled a better opportunity. Given a similar situation, Miles stayed and did not go to Michigan. People here quickly forget what that meant to Miles or to us. The either or is quite clear. Saban is a good coach but bama fans will not volunteer that Miles is a good coach, even though he met and in some areas exceeded Saban's accomplishments here. Not a shocker since there are plenty of LSU fans that cannot recognize the nose on their face either. While I have to listen to that bs from fellow tiger fans, I don't have to from rival posters and will point it out whenever I see it, no matter how cleverly subtle you believe yourself to be. Then by the bama standard of Miles, he will never beat the superior Saban again. When he does, your fanbase will look like fools yet again. Deny it if you like, but I doubt anyone here will buy it. You have been transparent enough.
You know, that's a great point. It's one thing to get to the mountain top. It's quite another staying there.
this is very charlie weisish and needs to be banned. and here is a good episode of curb your enthusiasm.
