God wouldn't like our golf courses and would likely be off to the NFL for bigger bucks within a couple years anyway.
Miles is a good, solid coach who will give us many winning seasons. Only time will tell what he can do with our talent rich state - but I remember reading a breakdown of our coaches from a football scout on tb that described Miles as a "recruiting machine". Also interesting to note that you mentioned RP - MikeS last night gave an update where he said both Miles and Petrino called Ryan's coach to discuss the job, and he also mentioned his source said an LSU official talked to Ryan's coach and asked him if Ryan would be available to meet their new head coach on Monday. Said he would be a guy who Ryan could 'get along with'...he's a 'player's coach'. Miles certainly qualifies as that. One last thing, Miles is recruiting a few players that we are also following...and those players have OSU high on their list. Miles could probably get all those kids to come to LSU if he chose to pursue them (don't know about his feelings in that regard).
A comparison of their resumes. I think NS's was more impressive and a better predictor of success. I'll say it again. If Skip announces that Les is the new coach I'm behind him 100% from day one. I was on the Del Rio bandwagon but if you believe what you read it doesn't look like it's going to happen.
I forget where I read this, but it was a credible report (by a journalist/football scout) that Miles would not go to Michigan - he had a run in with Carr (he led an alternative 'click' of coaches under Bo...and Carr led the other) when he was an asst. Apparently him and Carr hate each other, and when the hired Carr they 'chose' that click over Miles'. The scout seemed to think they would hire Cam Cameron when Carr retired.
Miles says today "It is hard for me to withdraw from consideration since I never put my name in the hat to begin with" http://oklahomastate.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=193&tid=45604569&sid=&style=2
Yes, he was...and given the state of the LSU program at the time, he was the best we could get. You would think we might have progressed somewhat in 5 years. Instead, we're still just settling for what we can get. I'm not impressed at all w/ that 28-21 record at Okie State...we've fired coaches w/ better overall records than that. If they do hire this man I'll be sorely disappointed that we couldn't do better.
And the "best we could get" turned out to possibly be the best coach in LSU history......I will take another "best we could get" coach when he does a great job given the circrumstances around him and his team.
