They forgot a question: "Just how fast will you split for Ann Arbor once that job opens up?" We've not traded a Nick Saban watch for him jumping to the NFL to a Les Miles watch for him jumping to Michigan. Considering LSU has gone from having a coach who would not leave LSU for another job to one who will, I consider this a huge step down.
Guess Skip got rolled by the BOS after all. How do you go from trying to interview JDR yesterday to making a hiring decision today unless (a) your Jan. 12 deadline was BS and you wanted to end this in only 7 days all along or (b) you panicked after JDR cancelled yesterday or (c) both. So, so sad. Hell, I would have preferred Mike Riley.
Please Wake Me from this nightmare I agree Jimbo would have been a better hire and Mike Archer probably ruined Jimbo's chances, but Jimbo reminds me more like Mark Richt therefore I feel he would be a good fit for LSU. In my opinion, Les Miles will not even halfway keep the same level that Saban held to program to. Besides hiring Curly Hallman, this is one of LSU's worse hires.
I think it is a decent hire, and if true I would warm up to him. I love the clips the OU fans posted, and think he has done a good job recruiting among much bigger universities. I think he is a solid choice, just not spectacular.
can anyone else verify this? no offense but it's been one of those weeks...anybody else listening to J-BO and hearing the same thing?
from ESPN.com article on Petrino removing name... Where will LSU turn next? Well, Oklahoma State coach Les Miles has emerged as the favorite to get the job. The 51-year-old, fourth-year coach is reminiscent of Saban five years ago, when LSU plucked Saban from Michigan State. Miles has done great things with the Cowboys, but his team will always be No. 2 in the state. Miles, who signed a seven-year, $10 million contract extension last year, said Sunday, "I'm focused only on preparing for Ohio State in this [Alamo] bowl game." Miles is an offensive-minded coach who played on the offensive line at Michigan, where he served as a longtime assistant coach. He was also an offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State and a tight ends coach with the Dallas Cowboys.
According to another board, WJBO also said Ryan P and the ESJ coach are part of the deal. Sounds far fetched, just letting you know what else they reported.
