It's a numbers game. Coaches have to make their best guess at how many they end up being able to give scholarship to. It's not like they knew that they wouldn't be able to get Porter in and just lied to him. It just worked out that way and the rules are the rules on number so their hands are tied. It's just one semester that he has to pay the bill and he's still on the team. Worst case he takes one semester student loan. It's not a big deal.
Re: "Les Miles is a bad guy" (link added) I was going to call him "addlepated", but I'm on probation.
Re: "Les Miles is a bad guy" (link added) addlepated adjective stupid and confused; "blathering like the addlepated nincompoop that you are"; "a confused puddingheaded, muddleheaded fellow"- Isaac Sterne [syn: addlebrained] I'm going to send it to O'Reilly.
That is the point, you usually don't need excuses for greyshirts because they are common and usually accepted with no issues. This could as well. The NCAA rules are going to force more greyshirts than before so everyone is going to have to gain a thicker skin. Trust me the boosters/fans are going to have way more of a problem if the staff passes on guys and not hedge our bets on NSD. We were just very fortunate to land 4 commits on NSD and have all 5 with qualifying questions to get cleared. That is a good thing. LSU also made some moves on NSD to help prevent further needs of greyshirts with Blackmon and Bates.
Re: "Les Miles is a bad guy" (link added) Sorry, irrelevant what was said. What they are doing with the 2011 class is an outrage. Let me see they are up to what 17 now, on there way to 25. Sorry, this is not the way to handle this IMHO.
I have no problem with them over-signing Porter... what I have a problem with is the 2011 class. That is just down right wrong. IMHO
