Les is not an idiot. Let's just cut that out. In looking back at the 4th quarter after we took the lead, I'll be the O-coaching staff would like to rethink the Ware-cat that went for no gain on 4th and 1, possibly the running play before that on 3rd and 2. On the missed FG drive, Mett had shown a number of times he could convert on 3rd down. Why not try again there, or on the previous drive? Seemed we went uber-conservative to set up a FG. As it turned out, with the miss, there was too much time on the clock for Alabama. One thing that surprised me was we rarely ran to the outside; Ford didn't see much action. Perhaps on the aforementioned 3rd and 2, or on the 4th and 1, try Ford to the outside instead of the runs up the middle.
Yep. As great as he is, that last series was the worst calls he's made all year and it couldn't have come at a worse time. We'd shut them out the entire 2nd half playing tight man 2 man, but on that last series, he was scared to give up the big play, so we went soft zone. Then after giving up huge chunks on the first 3 plays, he got to aggressive with the blitz and got burned. It was an easy read and an easier call for Bama to make. I saw it and was hoping we were showing blitz, but would drop into coverage. Saban admitted in the post game interview that they'd seen our 2 minute D on film, so when they saw it in game, they knew exactly how to attack it. Way to self scout and change your tendencies during the bye week.
We collapse when its crunch time. We see this all the time especially in the redzone. It's systemic. Watch if we suddenly bust a play to the opposing teams 20. Likely confusion and a timeout. Like tonight. First half driving have them on their heels. Timeout. Bama regroups and we end up with nothing. The staff is bad in game situations and outthink themselves. Even a mett coming out party couldn't disguise it tonight. The coaches constantly kill the rhythm we strive so hard to find. And by coaches it's clear it's les.
Do you think they practice situational football? I remember my HS baseball coach drilling us on situational play more than anything, knowing what must be done before the situation even presents itself.
