There's something to be said for coming up with a plan, then having the patience to let your plan work. If you react to every setback and "burble", you just end up all over the place with no coherent direction. However...by the third quarter, I would say it was clear Jefferson wasn't getting it done and it was time to try something else. Miles is patient - and I like that - but he's a tad too patient sometimes. Like JJ, he's slow to pull the trigger.
I do have a question here: have our receivers been able to break free of the opposing teams defense? Could that be part of the reason why JJ is "slow" in pulling the trigger? or has he been too careful?
I'll say this. The TD pass to RR in the UNC game? He was WAY behind the receiver when he was at the 25. JJ just wouldn't throw it until the last minute. Beautiful throw, but it was almost too late. It was like he was waiting for him to reach the endzone.
Our receivers would have gained many more yards after the catch if they had been able to catch the ball in stride. The balls were all over the place and they did a great job just catching a lot of those balls.
A few series for JL at TS would be a great way to get something perhaps fired up in the offense....however, a revisit to the swamp might revive some terrible memories for him as well....hope not. I think he could win the starting QB job back if CLM gives him another shot.
I really hate to cry over spilt milk, but....I wish we were talking about getting Zack Lee into the game....just sayin' !! :bncry:
We had receivers open all over the place, the routes are good and Crowton/Gonzales schemes are finding gaps in the coverage. For example, that pass to Ware was a beautifully executed play and he was wide open on the sidelines and it should have gone for a touchdown. But he had to slow down, twist his body around, and lose balance to catch the bad pass and it caused him to step out of bounds on the 8. Then Jefferson had 6-5 Tolliver open in the end zone and covered by a 5-10 cornerback and he threw it short for an interception, killing the drive.
i feel Lee should be the starter as well but for the sake of argument i think if they stopped calling that damn draw play and let him focus more on looking downfield he might have a little more success. IMO he looked like a quarterback playing with no confidence at all this past week. Luckily the d (as usual) stepped it up and stevan ridley came back from whatever planet it is that he has been on.
