come on clair, that's really not a fair criticism. (meaning you shouldn't criticize a guy for trying his hardest) instead criticize him for audibling into predictable plays, locking down on receivers, etc. but trying his hardest is off limits.
I am not criticizing him. I love the heart. You just have to be selective about when to use it. If he runs that often throughout the year and exposes himself that often, this won't be the only game he leaves injured.
fair enough, but i don't know how many more opportunities like this he's going to get from here on out. so... i'd bet most of the time now he'll be in on... predictable situations which means he'll have to run the ball more.
It was the hit from Brett Helms that knocked him out. With the hit from the defender, he pops right up, had it not been for hitting his head on a running Helms knee/thigh. Hatch is a tough little dude. I like him, and I hope he didn't see his last real snap tonight...but Lee IS "da man" from here on out, I think. He grew up a TON tonight...in one half.
Yep - Lee showed that when it comes down to the n*t cutting, he's the one holding the knife. A very gutsy performance that should propel him to even greater heights in the coming weeks. Congrats, J Lee - welcome to the SEC!
I don't think it was just the QB trying not to make a mistake, I think the Crowton was over conservative trying to prevent a turnover. After you get down 11 to a good D, ya just gotta go out and PLAY. Start trying to make plays instead of trying to not to make a turnover. Our hand was forced; take the training wheels off or lose the game. Mr. Lee stepped up BIG TIME!!! He will make another mistake, but his talents put all of our playmakers at receiver right back in the game and make us much harder to defend. Thanks Jarrett!!!
Honestly, as glad as I am we won the game, I'm more excited about the rest of the season's potential now. Before the Lee completions I had already accepted that we would lose half our games!
I can't help but think that Lee would have not seen the field again last night if Hatch hadn't been hurt. First half stats: 0-5 with a really stupid interception returned for a TD. He stepped up when he had to, but I think we're better off using both quarterbacks until one really separates himself. Lee has the arm but Hatch still has the poise.
Great post, Red. I agree. Lee did tonight what great competitors do - he seized the opportunity. He's going to feed off that experience last night for a long, long time. I think we're still going to see some inconsistency, some poor decisions, etc. He's still just a RS freshman. I think our QB situation has been proven to be far better than many thought.
