Same here, I had a high school friend whose grandpatents only spoke the cajun dialect so he had to learn it, and he did. I'm actually very ashamed that I didn't learn more than I did. My sister still lives in New Iberia and her kids are in the french immersion program and I can only hope that it keeps the language alive. There aren't many people left alive that can teach it. The military made Rosetta Stone free for us a few years ago, I started to work on Spanish and got distracted. Beer was probably involved.
Yes it is very effective. You get out what you put in. They use a lot of pictures and matching but it works. I gave up on it far too quickly.
