That's my biggest knock on him. If he would just own that and say it didn't work, instead of shifting blame I would respect him a great deal more.
like you, i would rather someone say "i tried and it didnt work" than i would someone trying to shift blame. there is too much trying to weasel out of things by people across the political spectrum. i have been thinking about your question a lot in regards to both parties. and i'm still blank. unfortunately, it's been 8 years since there was a political candidate for anything i felt very confident in their abilities and reasons for running for office.
I found this projection interesting. It was from Wikipedia so I don't know how accurate it is. Based on population projections here's the projected shift in Electoral College votes. Is it a huge shift?..no but considering the next election should be much closer it could have an impact. It would be huge in a Bush/Gore type election. Democrat States: (-6) Illinois-1 less vote Mass.-1 less vote Michigan-1 less vote Minnesota-1 less vote N.J.-1 less vote N.Y.-1 less vote Penn.-1 less vote Wash.-1 more vote Republican States: (+7) Arizona-1 more vote Georgia-1 more vote Louisiana-1 less vote S.C.-1 more vote Texas-4 more votes Utah-1 more vote Swing States: (-1) Florida-1 more vote Iowa-1 less vote Nevada-1 more vote Ohio-2 less votes
Any outside chance the Democrats decide to not nominate Obama for re-election? It's too early to decide but if things continue to get worse or if the November elections are far worse than predicted, do they attempt to go another direction? As a conservative I'm split on the choice. I believe he's failing miserably and his ideology is dangerous to America so I would like him gone. On the other hand I believe he's primed for defeat (or heading there fast) and presents a good opportunity for a conservative to take over. If by chance they nominated someone else, who would it be? Hillary?...that would be ironic, funny, sad, interesting, etc.
Here's a shot in the dark: because drugs such as crack and cocaine are illegal? And this shouldn't turn into an argument over why they shouldn't be or why it's stupid, etc. It's the law. And if you break said law, there are consequences. I'd suggest that until such laws cease to exist, you get over it.
Dude, good thread. I wonder, if you are educated and actually good at something useful, you probably end up in industry. Why would you want to schmooz and politic and form azz kissing alliances with people and corp. america necessary to be a representative or senator, much less pres. of the US? It's almost like, anyone who thinks they'd be a good pres., that alone probably disqualifies them.
I agree with you, kinda, but I find this interesting; 1 individual dose of LSD will get you about a 5 year federal pinch. In that, a dose is measured by the weight of the paper which the drug is contained, not the actual amount of drug present in paper. How many folks are doing a 50 year federal pinch for a few drops of trip? Prolly far too many. LSD is all but forgotten in this land and this time, well, maybe red has some, dunno but there are wanna be lawmakers out there that are into the legalization of either certain drugs or all of em. I believe LaSalle's presumption is valid.
i think there are the few and far between out there that fit the first part of the statement, but also run for public office because they truly believe they can do good and be of service to better the state/country they love. at least that is how the last person i really believed in (that i mentioned above) was. his grandparents were immigrants (legal) from italy. he was raised to believe in the american dream AND to give back to the country that gave so much to his family. he was a truly a moderate so people from both extremes disliked him because he was unafraid to say things he knew would piss off the base of either party. (which also got him beat in the runoff's for governor.) that is the kind of candidate i wish i could find again.
