i dont think anyone was arguing in favor of the crazy woman. i think they were pointing out that your blanket description of liberalism as a "disease" was a bit over the top. liberals are right on occasion. sometimes it seems like people blindly agree what is the "conservative" or "liberal" view, and dont give issues independent analysis.

for instance, there is a "conservative" stance on various issues that have no real ideological correlation. like gun control and abortion and fiscal policy. those issues have nothing to do with each other, but often people take a side sort of arbitrarily based on the label they prefer.

    That's fair enough.

I can argue ideological correlations for the above issues. Conservatives believe that everyone has the right to bear arms individually as per the Constitution. "We" are against abortion because we believe that a person is alive from the moment of conception rather than from the emergence from the mother's body. Oversimplification perhaps, but there isn't really enough time to debate at the moment.

what is the correlation between a particular interpretation of the 2nd amendment and an interpretation of when life begins?

this is why it seems arbitrary when politicians adopt the party line on some issues. like when a free market republican decides to adopt the rest of the republican agenda, it seems less than sincere, but thats what you have to believe to be republican, for no real reason. there are some politicians who are not like this, like rudy giuliani, but most are.

(i am not arguing you are wrong about these issues, just that they have nothing to do with each other)

(i agree that life begins at conception, but i condone murder, and have no real stance on gun control)

I think the system is silly. I never said I do not use it. Are you confused or just needing to rant? By all means go off on me.

See martin, I give out negative a lot. I agree, it is fun. The system is still silly nonetheless.

Edit: See that's another thing you illustrate andrew by saying "used your massive clout obtained through it"...... I did not raise my stupid green pixel count. Other people click on my countless idiotic and dull boring posts and leave me positive reputation. I've even asked on several occasions that people leave me nagative reputation rather than leave it for other people. There is nothing I can personally do to lower my "clout". Silly isn't it.

Yet when I leave negative for someone, they rant about "wah wah wah you use your high points against us.".

Brett, scrap this silly pixel game already!

All I was saying is that if you think it is so silly, why do you use it as it is intended to be used? That by definition is hypocritical, but in TE's defense we ARE all human :)

Personally, I think it is a good system for the netizens to indicate how they feel about a poster and their posts. Which is fine! I ask though, if you are going to use that against me, don't talk about how silly and stupid it is. If you really didn't care you wouldn't use it.

You make no sense. It would be hypocritical if I said I'd never use the rep points system, yet I always leave rep feedback for people.

I use it because it is there and is sometimes useful. Sometimes it is even fun. However, that does not mean I can't be critical of the rep system and call it what it is: Silly...... because, well, IT IS SILLY!

Here are some examples of why it is so silly. People give out positive points and hardly ever give out negative. Usually they give out the positive points for no apparent reason, other than just to give. On the other hand, negative points usually are given out for a reason, just not very often. People are scared to get negative back or something.

The system is silly because everybody is going to increase their points by simply posting messages regularly. Unless you are very controversial or just generally always silly, you stand little or no chance of getting a negative rating. The points are truly meaningless for such reasons.

Most of all though, the system is silly because of the constant conversations such as this one.

Basically all you are doing is complaining because you got negative feedback left for you. You are not the first person to do this and unfortunately you will not be the last. At least it continues to further illustrate just how silly the reputation system is.

i like the rep system as a mini private message system. mostly i dont leave a comment, but sometimes it is neat to be able to drop a couple words in there that you dont feel like posting and are not worth a private message.

gradin99, you dont want the rep system ditched, it is kinda fun.

there is sort of a collective intelligence to the rep system. it is interesting to see who gets rewarded. it brings about interesting behavior, with retribution points and stuff.

gradin99 used to be a rep points whore, but now he keeps it real yo (my niggaz). he learned that from me yall!

btw, in real life i like to end all sentences by screaming "AWWW SH!T!" with enthusiasm. sometimes i yell "BAM!" though.

Believe it or not everyone, I actually agree with his comment to some extent! Well, not the "rep points whore" part but......

I used to rarely give out negative points. Now I do, partly inspired by martin.

Now now though, it's not martin's fault or doing. Don't go giving him negative points for this. Give them all to me!

You're being hypocritical right now. Shame you can't admit it.

I'm complaining because YOU, Mr. Avowed-Thinks-Reputation-System-Is-Silly-Yet-Has-More-Rep-Points-Than-Anyone-Else gave me red, on a post that you disagreed with. Martin gave me red because of my initial whine, and i PM'd him "i love you".

I get red all the time because I'm not a very nice person. I don't complain to them, just to those who are above the system yet wallow in its depths constantly.
