I think many of you need to go back and reread my OP. I said nothing about the bama team not deserving the award...I said when the players and Saban talked they seem to be saying we need to win this title for those folks and that is pandering to a sympathy that is unbecoming of the tragedy...Reading skills, some of y'all need them...basically ESPN and the tide are saying they deserve to win because of how good it will be for the local community...thats BS, its Football Move forward or get the hell out of the way....and for the record i hated all the katrina aftermath whining here as well....
I'm sure espn is trying to spin a story. Bama is trying to change the narrative from okie state being screwed and bama's undeserving trip to Nola to bama is the good knight fighting the good fight for the lost souls in t-town. Sounds like some communication grads got together to formulate a plan to turn public preception away from bad ole bama screwing okie lite and using their political power for a trip to Nola to good guy bama helping poor orphans. I got that. Still, if the bama team did do good deeds then they should be rewarded. It's the adults in the room spinning what the kids did for the community.
Tragedies kind of put sports into proper perspective. They make you ask...What is the meaning of life?....how did I get here?....what happens when I die...is it really over, like I never existed?...does God exist or not? They're spiritual opportunities to understand life and what it means. I'm really glad that the tone of this thread changed...and don't sweat it if the original posters came off as insensitive...no big deal. We all do that ourselves. What's more important is what you think now, not what you were thinking yesterday or the day before.
Good post.....football is football, but a disaster like a tornado or hurricane that claims lives is alot bigger than football. My heart and my prayers went out to tuscaloosa and still do for that. I did some work in tuscaloosa this year, it's shocking how stuff still is there.
