Actually I think taxes and the level of government spending are both important.

Reverse directions in what way? Do you think we should cut spending along with raising taxes?

We need to reverse things by actually cutting spending. If we could do that there would probably be no need to raise taxes, but we are all in this enormous national debt together. The goal in my mind is to minimize federal taxes and pay off our debt, but I don't think that should be seriously implemented until spending has been dealt with. I really think that means revisiting on a national scale what the role of government is.

Look, just because you can point out something that LSU is doing that you don't agree with (think the Toonces logo, for ex), doesn't mean that LSU isn't your religion when it comes to being a sports fan.

As for you whole belief that you know this magic agenda that holds the secret to life when it comes to what is best for America, that a hard sell for me to swallow. I think if you knew a lot more about politics and law, that you wouldn't believe that either the GOP or DNC represents your values and beliefs so well that you'd feel comfortable saying that either of them are best for the future of the United States of America. That's a main part of the reason I like the two-party system (although I'm interested in learning and thinking more about the idea of a multi-party system).

No, I think the more knowledgeable one gets about politics and law, the more independent and critical they get, it doesn't really have a lot to do with labels such as "conservative," "moderate," or "liberal."

Good post, especially the last part. I consider myself to be an independent. The other thing is these guys say one thing when running, and do other things. I think every president since 1970 was going to "fix social security" and nobody has.

If you want to call it a religion then fine. I'm not ashamed of my beliefs when it comes to politics and I admit I'm very passionate when it comes to politics. I'm not sure what your point is here.

No one party holds all my beliefs. Whether you realize it or not you are criticizing each member of the Republican and the Democrat party in this country. As if somehow intelligent people can't study each party and come to a determination which party is best for the country. You're saying since I have strong convictions regarding the conservative philosophy I don't know enough about politics and laws. I believe in lower taxes, self reliance, less government regulations, a strong military, and a smaller government. Do I think these characteristics hold the secret to life? Absolutely not. However, I do believe these things give an individual the best opportunity to be successful in life. Can you look at each one of these characteristics and determine which you believe in and which you don't? If so then you're on your way of determining your political philosophy whether that be conservatism, liberalism or somewhere in the middle. Wherever that is I fully respect your choice and you won't see me accusing you of not knowing enough about politics and law because of that.

I respect people who hold the liberal philosophy. I'm not going to accuse them of not knowing enough about politics and laws just because they don't hold my views. There's plenty of very intelligent informed people on both sides. One thing is for certain is that each ideology is quite different. To tell me that I need to study politics and laws since I'm more aligned with conservatism makes you come across as an elites.

Nonsense. I think that most adults over time reinforce their political beliefs as they obtain more knowledge because people have core values and convictions that are not easily changed.
