    You sure they weren't F-18 Hornets (since it was a Naval base.) We had two squadrons of those at Dobbins when I was there and they had to be the noiseist little bastards I've ever heard.

    Probably were now that I think about it. I believe they had both planes and no telling what else. Oceana may be the largest naval air base in the world. That whole area has a vast military prescence. Dam Neck where the SEALs train is just down the road. In nearby Norfolk there is the largest naval harbor in the world. There is a huge army base between Virginia Beach and Norfolk on the back road by the Chesapeke Bay.

    I was on the ground. They were in the air. The larger planes made a lot more noise than the smaller ones.

    Had a buddy in one of my squadrons flew U-2's, couldn't tell us anything about the airplane or their mission, too classified.

    This thread has gone awry. lol

    I know the survivor of this crash. He’s amazingly recovered very well. Gave a local tv station an interview recently.

    I read an interview online somewhere with him. He was incredibly lucky.
