Burning books doesn't make you a hero. It means you were bored and had an opposable thumb. There's nothing heroic about burning paper, bound into a book.

its not about the paper, guy, try to use your head. its about taking a stand against those who would commit acts of violence in response to free speech, like the muslims who still want to kill salman rushdie, or the guys that killed theo van gogh. both were doing nothing more than expressing their opinions. having the balls to express an opinion, even if it means idiots might get violent, that is heroic, because it benefits everyone when opinions can be freely expressed.

for example, if you are burning an american flag, and a dude comes and beats you up, that is an indication that you were doing the right thing by burning the flag, because people dont understand the importance of freedom of speech.

symbolism, people, try to wrap your heads around it. its not about the actual paper or flag, its an avenue for expression.

What if the book had an orange cover and tiny separate little pages with gummed edges and no words on them?

i would like to see this guy burn a koran in my neighborhood, on steinway st in queens. i live like two blocks from where my street becomes "little egypt" and is stacked with (mostly very peaceful) muslims, and hookah bars and spectacular falafel places. i am certain punches would be thrown within minutes if i burned a koran outside my apt. and if this christian guy came here and burned korans, and exposed the muslims for the violent lunatics they are, good for him, i respect that.

One little ole pastor in Florida burns a koran and an entire country on the opposite side of the world goes insane and starts blowing themselves up over it.

We mind as well burn some ourselves and hope they just blow themselves all up at the same time.

exactly. when a koran burns, and trouble starts, the person to blame is never the guy burning the koran. he is simply exposing people as lunatics, which is good. if the burning koran drives you crazy, too bad, boss.
