I tend to agree. My great grandfather was a Klansman, the local Klan leader in fact, back in the 30's. But they were not into lynchings and cross-burnings, it was more of a feel-good country-boys club where they got together, fried fish, and talked about politics. There just weren't very many blacks in that part of Grant Parish at the time and those few that existed were hard-working pulp-wooders that were not thought to be a problem.

Grandma said they mostly were concerned with keeping the Catholics out of office! The most violent they ever got was horsewhipping a white man for beating his wife and kids. My grandfather technically joined, but never attended anything and never owned a hood. My father was a bigot but thought the Klan was all foolishness. When I came around there wasn't even a local chapter anymore.

But there is one up there now. It's about 8 people (including wives) who have expensively tailored red and black robes (no white sheets for them) and all they do is show up at parades, fairs, and other public functions and get jeered at, which they seem to enjoy.

In 100 years they have gone from terrorists and murderers to wannabe vigilantes to pathetic dweebs just trying to get some attention for themselves.

I don't quite understand what you mean here. Why exactly are the Panthers needed?

OM lost eight recruits because of the "rally"

That's a bit misleading... How many of them actually said "I'm not going to Ole Miss because the KKK had a rally there"? I think it would probably be more fair to say the had 8 recruits canceled their visits because of it.

He's not saying they are needed.
The Panthers were telling people why they think the Panthers are needed.

"Interesting conversation with UM coach Houston Nutt, who said that eight recruits stayed away from Ole Miss this weekend because of the Ku Klux Klan's presence in Oxford. "

Let me clarify, what I meant was how many are saying they are no longer considering attending Ole Miss to play football and how many just cancelled their visit. When you said lost, that usually means someone else has won when in fact no team has truly secured their services yet.

while they have not signed with another team, i think its safe to say that those eight will not be signed by OM.
