Can you guess when Charleston High School in Charleston, MS held their first integrated prom? Maybe sometime in the 60s? 70s? 80s? Nope. Try last year, 2008. http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movies/01/21/mississippi.prom/index.html
the good news (for the South) is that the klan isnt "Southern" anymore. its much more prominent in Indiana, for example. the sad part is they are never going away (any more than they already are). every country has about 10% of their population like this. i dont think they all wear funny outfits and burn crosses though.
but the stereotyping is "southern". yes, there is racism everywhere, but that particular brand is still associated with the south.
The KKK is an impotent bunch of ignorant idiots. The school shouldn't be identified with them. Whoever connects those dots is equally ignorant.
wrong. Parents sending their kids to college really dont want to have to worry about the Klan marching on campus, alot of shyt can happen if someone provokes it from either side. If you cant see the connection their then I dont know what to tell you.
That goes with any type of protest. If it was a ProLife March the threat of violence would be just as real. The Klan isn't more dangerous just because their targets are non whites.
For minorities it is, I can see why you cant make that connection, but I can. Let me clarify, before you assume. its because you're white and Im black. They wouldnt be targeting your kids, mine? possibly yes.
true, but to my knowledge, the Klan hasn't marched on Ole Piss' campus in quite some time. Them showing up and marching isn't good for their image, but linking them with the Klan because of an isolated incident probably isn't fair. They at least seem to be trying to clean up their image (of being Southern Racist Rednecks).
Its not about the school itself directly, indirectly yes, if a fight song performed by the school's band and the banning of it, causes the Klan to march on that campus. As a parent I would be reluctant to send my kids their as a minority and thats just common sense to me.
