sure, if you say so. the reason communism doesnt work is that you need to profit motive to make people dig ditches. not true about creativity. people are desperate to express themselves.

and yet he still wrote it.

if you are good enough write you can always get a job teaching.

i didnt steal it. unfortunately back then i had to buy it in paper. today i would consider stealing it. i would encourage everyone to steal it. it makes society better when we all read, it makes us better and more interesting people.

Not the point. Professional writers and musicians must make a living like everybody else.

    Well, almost everybody else . . .

You want to force people to do your bidding, Komrade. If I write a book and publish it, you can either pay for it or steal it. You cannot tell me that I must give it to you and find another job if I don't like it.

Toole was a nut-job in case you didn't notice. He never worked in his life that I'm aware of. He would have been a horrible teacher.

a professional hopscotcher doesnt exist. there is no market for it. so he cant live off his talents. we dont say "aww booo hoo a man should be able to profit from what he does".

why is is that you say professional musicians/writers have to make a living, but obviously professional hopscotch artists do not? because we need writers? right. well then for your argument to hold you need to demonstrate that writers wouldnt write if they were not paid. and this is clearly not true. millions of people are writing crap that is not published. people write for free, always have. go walk over to your english department and see how many of your pals over there have written or are writing novels.

professional autoworkers have a right to make a living right? what about when technology replaces them? there is no such thing as "X deserves to be paid for doing whatever they do". X should find something that is profitable. the market changes,.

No it doesn't, the library buys that copy and the author gets his share. This only applies for works in copyright, you know. There are millions of books in the public domain and Google is scanning thousands every day. This should satisfy your lust without forcing you to steal from living authors.

If you had a job, you wouldn't tolerate it if everyone stole your paycheck.

Why are you pretending to be stupid? Any fool knows that authors deserve to be paid for their work. New technology for viewing literature does not making writing obsolete! What a ridiculous notion! If you disapprove of an authors work, then don't buy it. It doesn't give you the right to steal it. You are just making lamer and lamer attempts to justify your moral shortcomings.

because i am a wonderful patient person, i will keep trying. ok. stop being red for a second and listen.

imagine a world in which traditional publishing simply isnt profitable. why would this result in a worse society? you are aware that 99% of people writing now are not getting paid, right?

let me ask an honest question. do you think hemingway wrote because he wanted paychecks?

you seem to think that the simple accomplishment of a task means a man is deserving of a paycheck. as if you can go out in your back yard dig ditches and you should get paid. thats not the way it works. you have to contribute something scarce. and good writing is not scarce. and it doesnt require money to create. creativity isnt something you can buy.
