Genetic luck. Neither of my parents wear glasses (late 60s). Of course, we were unlucky genetically in other areas....but we won't go there....
my eyes are better than 20/20 and have always better athan anyone could possibly imagine, and i am well under 40 and i still dont like reading on iphone. i even kinda think kindle screen is too small.
to answer the question about airplanes, i was shut down multiple times by stewardesses whilst trying to read during some travels over the weekend. they wont let you read the damn thing anywhere near takeoff or landing.
They don't like being called "stewardesses". They announce that you should turn off anything with an on/off switch. But, now, they (Continental, at least) have Direct TV. For a $6 swipe you can watch TV the entire flight, including on the ground. On my last one from Newark to Houston I watched Judge Judy, The Bold and the Beautiful and Fox News. The rest of the time I channel hopped just like I was in my recliner at the house.:thumb:
That's cool. I'm going on a long flight with Continental in a couple of months. Hope they have that on my flight. And Martin, Kindle's fonts are adjustable.
I was on my HTC Hero playing a game while it was in AIRPLANE MODE on Friday. Some b*tch stewardess walked up and said, "Sir, turn the cell phone off!" I was like, "it's disconnected and in airplane mode..." She interrupted me and got really loud like she was trying to make a scene "SIR TURN THE CELL PHONE OFF....NOW!" as if she were trying to evoke an elicit response from me. She totally made a scene. As I went to explain to her that it was disconnected, she said, "NOW!". I got so pissed off that I was about to engage into a pissing match with this b*tch. She was absolutely trying to start some kind of international news media story about an unruly passenger. I bit my tongue and she just stood there until she confirmed that it was all the way off. We were taking off, btw. There was a lady across the isle who leaned over and said, "don't worry about it....she don't know.....she could have handled that differently." A few hours later when we were about to land she got on her intercom thingy and told everyone to turn their cell phones and other devises ALL THE WAY OFF and she looked directly at me and gave a smart ass smirk when she said it. I swore to God that I was going to file a complaint against her for being a road whore about the whole thing.......I never did.
Cu/paste your post onto an email and send to the airline's customer relations department along with the flight number and date. Airlines are very competitive right now. She'll hear about it. Don't let the bitch slide.
i know. i have one. i have never seen them care about airplane mode, they want the thing off. airplane mode is good to save battery while in flight, but not a useful excuse to keep using your phone. as far as i can tell you will still be asked to turn the thing off 100% of the time regardless of airplane mode.
our electronics dont actually effect the plane at all. if they did, they would take them from you instead of asking you to turn them off. i never even really turn mine off, i just put them away. the kindle in particular is super harmless, because it is always kinda "off". it isnt using power unless the wireless is on, or it is rejiggering the e-ink to turn the page. if our electronics actually had any effect on anything, you would not be allowed on the plane with them at all.
