yes, puerto ricans are as bad as blacks. irish and italian gangs? maybe so but not like the black folks. black folks in particular have a terrible culture, like you mentioned. no fathers.

there are certainly chinese gangs. but give me a random poor chinese immigrant vs a random poor black fella, and the chinese dude will accomplish so much more. he can break the cycle of poverty. so could the black dude if he wanted.

of course if the black fella is an immigrant himself he will probably do alright as well, because he will be a motivated sort of guy who bothered to come here, and he might be from ethiopia or some other african country where the black folks are not stupid. the average american black from slave stock is a dummy. black folks are not all the same, you dang racists.

id say it has nothing to do with poverty

no coincidence, huh? seriously, its typically not the kids fault. its all on the parents. and you gotta get to the kids early.

    thats reassuring

imo, there is such thing as a poverty cycle. generation after generation. the parenting/attitude i mentioned are a part of it. it has nothing to do with unemployment statistics/economy. it has to do with learning how to be an employee. understanding that education is important to lifting one out of the poverty.

which goes back to the my previous post. yes, these kids could maybe go through life in low paying jobs, but they would be low wage jobs for the rest of their lives, having babies, and raising more kids in poverty, not teaching them the value of education, work/trade skills, etc. the poverty cycle has to be broken by teaching kids that just showing up isnt gonna get it done. they have to get an education. they have to learn job skills. they have to learn how to be an employee, not just a worker (if that makes sense).

which is where i come back to the older youth in the ged program. most of those kids were already learning what it was like to struggle because they didnt have a diploma or skills. and the program not only gave them work experience and an education (in the form of a ged), it had instructors showing them how to write a resume. how to present themselves for a job. how to interview. these were things they had never been taught, and in many cases, never had anyone help them understand there was a value in learning. or had parents who didnt have anyone to help them with those things so they never learned themselves and trapped themselves in poverty, along with their kids, and their kids...

imo, the parenting/poverty cycle are tied together. but the poverty cycle is real. its not just money that gets one out of it. its getting the tools to make the money to get out of it. some get so tied to trying to make a living and support their families, they dont know how to learn the tools to get out, or dont think they have the time. or they just settle for living in poverty. these kids were trying to get out before they got trapped with supporting that next generation in working poverty. the pregnant teens i saw were working to not have their kids trapped the same way.

edit to add: i mentioned before i saw parents who didnt give a sh*t. i also saw parents who looked like if their kids didnt listen to me and do what i told them so they would have the opportunity in a program that wasnt unlimited in spots (once it filled we had to turn kids away) they were gonna bust some ass!

    Remember Reginald Denny?

Reginald Denny, a construction truck driver was nearly beaten to death by a group of black assailants who came to be known as the "L.A. Four". The attack was captured by a Los Angeles News Service helicopter piloted by Bob Tur and shot by Marika Tur. The video was broadcast live on US national television. *snip*
