They would, SabanFan, and I also think that to a certain extent, there is an "out of sight, out of mind" mindset prevalent amongst our fans... It goes hand in hand with the regime change on the 2nd floor...they got tight lipped about info when it came to...anything...regarding football, and consequently, the more interesting "off the field" situations never aired, either...
I would think that almost all problems involving "crime" the public would know about due to freedom of the press. The other problems can be considered private issues. Failing an internal drug test is an internal private issue, but getting arrested is both an internal issue and a public issue. It is public because of the records being public, and the University being public. As a supporter of the University, both as a tax payer and as a dues paying Alumni member, I have a right to an opinion. I am not naive about the players, I teach inner city football players at one of the worst schools in the state. I think that the public opinion does matter. If we start to be percieved as a "Thug U" it matters. I feel it is important to take a strong public stand to send a message to the players, recruits, recruit's families, fans, and public in general. I want our message to be "LSU runs an honest, disciplined program". I hope that is what we all want. Miami doesn't want to be known as "Thug U" either, but once you lose discipline, it is extremely hard to get it back. They are not willing to clean house, because they don't want the program to suffer. All I am saying is that we have a strong, well disciplined program, and I want it to stay that way. If a recruit is found guilty of doing drugs on campus in a High School, than I don't want that kid at LSU. Could he clean up and fly right? Sure. Will he? I have no idea, but if he doesn't, then what kind of influence is he on our players? What message do we send to recruits, and their parents, by taking a player who does drugs on a high school campus?
Im sure he isnt the only kid doing drugs on the team (laughs sarcastically)... No one was saying the records arent public.... thats kinda obvious. The point is what magnitude this has can't be evaluated except by the coach. Im sure if Saban feels this guy will hurt his team in any way he wont accept him. If he thinks he wont hurt this team and can use football to maybe keep him out of trouble and by getting an education...well theres another option as well. Why do we act like these are isolated incidents and we need to overreact and assume we know what is best for this team? That's something our coach knows perfectly well how to handle...hell he doesnt HAVE to win so even if this guy can help him but is a bad influence....he's outta here. Saint Nick is a Saint...he has nothing to prove.... Would be different if it was DiNardo on a short leash but we all know thats not the case. whatever lil nicky decides, Im ok with it unless this guy is team captain next yr. heh
you mean to tell me there are other kids in Louisiana and possibly on the football team doing illegal stuff? lol think we could field a team in anything if the coaches made everything public record? How many required for a bowling team?
What an arsehole you are ... Miami loser The McGill incident: “Two groups of people that are non-students got in a fight where our players live,” he said. “Basically, I don’t know all the details, but I think our players were trying to be good guys in trying to break up a fight. Somebody hit one of our players, and he (McGill) hit him back. So now we have a big incident over this, and I’m sorry that this is an incident.” This will be handled internally. This incident is nothing compared to THUG U's shenanigans. Go back to your crack pipe ... sparky.
I dont see whats the big deal. Whats wrong w/smoking a little bud and throwing the football around. I saw the Phil Jackson storry on behind the lines and he use to smoke tons of bud and he turned out to win the most playoff games in history as a coach (in charge of a billion $ team) Bud can't be all that bad.
Why do you think he has been so good at controlling Kobe and Shaq? Nothing better at mellowing people out than, well you know... BTW, I'm kidding. As far as this kid goes, he is a commitment for the 2005 class. It's going to be another year and a half before he would ever step foot on campus. I'm sure if he can keep out of trouble from now to then he'll be allowed on the team. If not, then he'll be asked to go somewhere else. This situation will work itself out if everyone lets it.
