Yep, Baylor was bad for years, they have a good run going now. Baylor back then was kind of like the years TCU had Pat Sullivan and Jim Wacker, you remember those years right? I remember when LSU almost hired Pat Sullivan.

yep. they knew he was thinking of leaving. his contract was on his desk for weeks and he failed to sign it unless alleva worked out a few details. alleva played hardball. and lost of course. it was a complete-game shut out.

In 2007 Steele didn't like the time he spent on the road, despite his small territory, and Saban allowed him just to recruit an area that was roughly 100-150 miles away from campus in 2008. By no means is he considered a "full on recruiter."

His territory has never been the Gulf Coast area while he's been in Tuscaloosa. In his current position, he's been responsible for the state of Tennessee and occasionally drifting a little more north. The "great" Jeremy Pruitt (FSU and now UGA fame) didn't have the "balls" to handle the Gulf Coast and was reassigned to a different section of the Mobile area. To suggest, or even think, Steele as a premium recruiter in that area isn't the case.

When it comes to recruiting he does do well in a few areas. He's pretty good on OV's when it's his responsibility to break down the X's and O's of where a player can fit in the scheme. He does do well at evaluating film. Around the athletic department he was known as a "great computer recruiting analyst."

On a different note: Are we back to citing HC'ing records as definitive statistics on how well a guy will do as a position coach, or as a coordinator? Cam's record in Miami isn't indicative of what he brings to the offensive coordinator position according to most here.

And, just to be clear, Briles won with Steele's recruits, right?!? [IMG]

The rest of the SEC West is LOLing also , Bama fans are just beside themselves , now they have a chance of getting a good to great coach . It will be a , I really do not know how to say this . Exciting is not the word , maybe a test to find out who is really a LSU fan . We know where we are weak on defense . Yet we hired a guy who is just as weak maybe weaker than what we are used too.

I was just stating what's been reported on twitter, not saying you're right or wrong on this matter, but several have stated his importance in bama's #1 recruiting classes.
