I think it was the best that they could get especially since we all know that new DC bring in their own staff, and since all of the assistants just signed new contracts, it limits what the next DC can do, and I believe that scared away a lot of the ones who would want the job. I believe the extensions hurt us more than helped us on the defensive staff and this band-aid is placed to stop the bleeding. Just my opinion of course, but it is what it is and nothing any of us can do about it.
I don't understand it feels like we went after Kirby Smart and then we couldn't get him so we settled for someone on Bama's staff. It makes LSU look like we are chasing big brother Bama. The administration must feel that Saban has the golden touch and we must have a Sabanite. Really disappointed with how the search was handled more than the selection. EDIT: It gives perception that LSU just wants someone from Bama rather than going after the best candidate. It's like we have an inferiority complex, don't settle for someone just because he has worked with Saban. Again just don't like how the search was handled at all.
Actually Steele was one of the first names to come out when Chavis left, and then it quieted down with other names coming and going, and then the Smart conversation picked up again. I believe Smart was stupid not to make the move because he will always be under Saban's bus. If the defense does good, Saban gets the credit, but if it doesn't then it's Smart's fault.
I remember it same with Brook Trout Look as well. Perception sometimes is reality. Feels like we settled for Steele because he has worked with Saban and that we need the Saban mojo. Just don't think we did a good job of controlling the message and PR. Literally hours before, LSU allowed stories to leak out about talks with Smart increasing and the we hire Steele.
How many times has Steele been fired??? Sure wish they would have rewarded Haley and brought in Orgeron........dude may have issues but you can't complain about his recruiting skills.
From the bama site: "A veteran coach with a wealth of top-level experience in the college and pro ranks, Kevin Steele is in his second stint with the Crimson Tide. Steele, who returned to Alabama in 2013 as the Director of Player Personnel, made the transition to linebackers coach in February of this year. He will also serve as special assistant to the head coach. Steele helped the Crimson Tide put together the nation's top-ranked 2014 recruiting class." You in the coaching profession long enough, you're gonna get fired. The entire Denver staff was fired yesterday. Guess they were all bad coaches? I know many coaches that have been fired over the years. But they get hired. "You get hired, to get fired!" Remember someone saying that?
Well, that for sure is true. As for the rest, probably a lot of truth in that as well. Thanks for helping to level it all out for a bit. I'm sure we will fire back up again soon.
No one can, and no one can beat him, he's never lost a game. 5 out of the last 6 years to have the #1 recruiting class, that is why nick has never lost a game in his life.
