I am not excited by this hire, but not extremely disappointed. Only time will tell, the LSU fan base should step back from the ledge and let him coach a game before throwing in the towel. I do have some concerns -Steele has been fired from every job that he has had game day decision making responsibilities. Better supporting cast member than the lead. -His Clemson teams had problems stopping the spread and running QBs. -An older guy that will not bring new ideas and energy to an older staff. Seem kind of like a good ol' boy hire. Too much of yes man and like minded thinking. Positives -Supposedly a great recruiter -NFL people state he has a great X and O philosophy. -Hard worker since he has been on Saban's staff and Saban requires his assistants to give everything. Only time will tell but I hope he is successful. I have become spoiled because it really feels like both the Saints and LSU are on the decline back to 1990s performance. Here's hoping for a successful 2015 and hope the offense improves to at least a contributor to victory.
I'm not sure if you guys remember this or not but John Chavis' specialty before LSU was linebackers and I think he underperformed in that aspect.
Maybe he learned a thing or two under Nicky and Kirby. He'll have much better talent to work with here than he did at Clemson. If O is hired, it might ease the sting. Trying to be positive but still can't see why Steele and not Brick if settling was the goal. I was neither a pumper nor a minion coming in to this season but I was residing much closer to the pump station. The totally inexcusable waste at the QB position made me lose faith and hope that things would improve. I tried being optimistic about the DC search, endured pumpers telling everyone to shut up, it'll be a big time name, quit whining, Yada Yada yada..... Maybe Steele will be a huge surprise. It's not likely but who knows. But God I'm tired of the BS coming from the pumpers and I'm not real thrilled with the joy of the minions. I'm just a disappointed fan looking for some good news somewhere. ...anywhere. It's not a great feeling to see your team sink toward the bottom of the West.
