Very good analysis, except he doesn't even seem to give credit to any of the possible Republicans who could run in 08. I think we have plenty of them. But other than that... maybe you should change your signature Martin. The picture of Big Baby every time scares me - he's a beastly lookin' fellow.

You generally only get one shot, if you lose a preseidential campaign. Like Mondale and Dukakis before him, Kerry will not have any serious support in 2008. It has always been a mistake to run a loser in a second presidential election. The GOP made a mistake in running Bob Dole after a previous loss. Ross Perot made a mistake running a second time, as did Nader.

Hillary Clinton is unelectable, as a female, and will not be the democratic candidate. Unlike conservative popular imagination, Hillary is not really the darling of the far left (Dean is). In the democratic party she is a centrist, as was The Slick One. She wants to stay in the Senate, in my opinion, where she wields some influence. Her role in 2008 will likely be to try to move the democrats more to the center where they can win the independent moderates as they did in 1992 and 1996.

No, the democrats will go for somebody new. The most successful Presidential candidates in recent decades were governors with no Washington voting record to defend. Carter, Reagan, Clinton, Bush. I don't see a democratic senator getting serious consideration. The senate is no longer the path to a presidency, if it ever was.
